Hey everyone I was recently banded August 21st of 2008 and I am experiencing a little problem. I was on liquids for 3 weeks and everything was fine with the exception of 1 slip up that happened at a wedding where I had a glass of wine a lemon drop and some chicken tenders. I know stupid but that was only once, and after reading a little more I realized why and felt really bad and had a slight freak out because I thought my band had slipped and I busted my stiches. Thankfully it did'nt but now I am aloud to go to purees or food that doesnt need to be chewed. What in the world can I eat?? what have other people eatten? I hate mashed potatoes so I dont want to eat that and i tried Peanut Butter but too fatty. Any suggestions? ALso if some one could let me know how to do one of those weight loss tickers that would be great too.

july 12 starting weight 286

Aug 21st surgery date weight 267

Sept 10th post surgery weight 253:w00t:

hi I was banded on the 19th August, and like you i hate pureed mash potato and things like that. what i have been eating for my meals, are things that are soft, but not pureed, and things that have flavour, and not bland, for eg. I am eating a lot of fresh salmon, because it is a oily fish and so high in Omega 3 and 6 i am finding it very nice, i have done it a few diff ways, but always with lots of vegetables. i chop the veggies very small, and use things like zucchini, red peppers, carrott, garlich sprouts, broccolli, and choko. dice them very small, place some olive oil, in the bottom of your pan, throw all the veggies in, toss so that the oil is coating all veggies, throw in some sea salt, a good amount of morrocan spice mix, to your taste. place the salmon fillet on top of the veggies, and place a few over it, so that the fish is covered. place lid on and steam veggies and fish, for about 15 mins on med heat. just before serving put in a good squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and some nice cracked black pepper. adjust seasoning if needed and serve,

I only have 1 small cup full, making sure that it is not over 200gms. because the veggies have been cut to a small dice, they are very tender. and are very easy to chew up also the fish , it will be succulent and very juicy, i have had no problems with this type of thing if you are not into morrocan spicy flavours, you could use asian flavours with soy sauce, shausing wine, salt, and oyster sauce, or some indian spices of your choice, it is very versatile, and very healthy.

Try the thread below, there are tons of recipes and ideas. Also, my favorite thing to eat when I was on mushies was to take fat free refried Beans (old el paso brand is the best in my opinion), put them in the blender or magic bullet with some vegetable or chicken broth and blend to a thick runny consistency. Heat and add in a little cheese if you like. It was soooo good after not having food for so long (and having all those sweet shakes and stuff). My DH joked and called it my bean shake but that is what I had for dinner nearly every night on mushies. Also good are cheese grits, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cream Soups, yogurt, applesauce.

Refried Beans in a blender (add in some Queso or salsa)

Canned tuna, salmon or chicken in a blender with your favorite add-ins. (a suggestion I pulled from this site was canned chicken and Tostito's spinach dip blended together...it is very good)

Chili in a blender (blends very well)

Blended oatmeal w/fruit

I even bought some baby foods and added a few spices to them, they are convenient in a pinch.

If anthing does not blend well, I just added a little Water.

I was banded on 8/27 and I am also on mushies and so sick of mashed potatoes and I don't lose weight eating white carbs! I am able to eat egg beaters and today I tried them with some laughing cow garlic and herb cheese melted and it was yummy! I also make some fresh fruit smoothies and they said I could have any caned Soup.< /p>

I had surgury on Aug. 22 and I eat just about anything I want. I bake instead of fry and I chew really good and I dont eat much at all. Every morning I cook me a omolet with cheese and deli style ham. I use the egg beater that is only the egg white and it is real good and very filling. I have not had any problem so far and I have not blended anything. And most important I have lost 20 pound since Aug.22 and still losing. The most important thing to do is chew good and eat small amounts. Good luck!

If your doctor says puree then I strongly suggest that you do not listen to anyone that says that they had no problems not following those guidelines. It is not worth the risk. It is not about the weight loss at this point, eating solid food gets your stomach churning and you are risking breaking your internal sutures and causing your band to tear loose and slip. You may do this damage without even knowing it right away. Puree food should be the consistency of baby food anything more solid is a risk not worth taking.

Yes, what Jodi said is right. Research shows that many who have slips later down the road did not follow their post op diets properly. It's not just about the fact that it "seems to be fine" now, you are setting yourself up for problems later by not following your dr's post op diet to the T.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
