Hello all, I had my surgery last Friday. My stomach is very swollen and hard- feeling like I am pregnant. Has anyone experienced this after surgery? If so, how long did it last? I am very miserable!!

It's okay, it's swelling and gas from the surgery. Just keep up the Lap-Band Motto, sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk and try to keep working the gas out, with gas X strips or whatever works for you. Just as a reference, I weighed myself in the morning before surgery and again after surgery when I got home and gained like 9 pounds it quickly fell off, but that just lets you have an idea of what your body went through. It took about a week to feel better and about 2 to feel great. But everyone is different. Restless Monkey was chatting with me on her surgery day! I on the other hand apparently cussed out my son for calling me on my surgery day and have no recollection of even speaking to him! LOL!

Hang in there. It does go away.

I feel so bad for you! I had the same problem, they explained to me that they pumped my abdomen full of air/gas to inflate it for surgery, after they close you up your body has to absorb that air/gas and then expell it. I have some pics of my abdomen from the week after my banding, it looked like I wa 5 months Preggers...It will go away.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
