HELLO EVERYONE, I HOPE I'M DOING THIS RIGHT! I HAD MY LAP BAND SURGERY ONE WEEK AGO ON SEPT 3. IT WAS NOWHERE AS EASY AS LAPARSCOPIC GALL BLADDER SURGERY LIKE SOME COMPARED IT TO. I THOUGHT I HAD A DECENT PAIN TOLERANCE UNTIL THIS PROCEDURE BUT I'M SOME BETTER NOW. DON'T WANT TO SCARE ANYONE WHO'S CONTEMPLATING THE SURGERY SINCE I'M HOPING IT WILL BE WORTH IT ONE DAY!

Welcome!

The surgery kicked my butt for about a week also, but it wasn't anything unbearable and it was definitely worth it. I would do it all over again. I LOVE MY BAND!!!!

I am contemplating getting the surgery, and starting the process at the beginning of the year...i have also been told that the pain was somewhat similar...but thanks for letting me know that it is not...best of luck with your weight goals and congratulations on making the best decision for you.

Hi Mejones! You're just one day ahead of me with your surgery. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better now. I would have to say, for me, it pretty much compared to gall bladder surgery. I'm sorry you've had a rough go of it, but it will be worth it in the end!!

I definitely didn't mean to imply the surgery is rough in general, it just kind of was for me. I had never had surgery before, so it threw me for a loop. My friend had the surgery 2 weeks prior to me, and she was picking up and holding her twin babies (4mth olds) on day 3. She bounced back really well. I think each person is different.

Sorry you had it rough. It was honestly easy for me and I had it twice in one month. It wasn't any worse than my gall bladder surgery I had in 2003, and I was 5 years older and 55 pounds heavier! We're all different, though.

THERE WERE A FEW FACTORS THAT ADDED TO MY PAIN, I GUESS. MY SURGEON HAD TO STITCH ONE OF MY INCISIONS INTERNALLY 'CAUSE IT KEPT SEEPING BLOOD AND COULDN'T GET IT TO STOP. THIS CAUSED A BIG DENT IN MY STOMACH AND IT STILL HURTS THERE WHICH MY DR SAID IS NORMAL. AS IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH I STARTED MY MONTHLY CYCLE A FEW DAYS INTO RECOVERING AND THEN HAD AN EXTREME CASE OF Constipation ON DAY 7.

I AM FEELING BETTER EACH DAY SO HOPEFULLY WILL BE ALOT BETTER SOON. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
