I Can't Believe I'm Asking This...

Recommended Posts

Hey Scuba, if you're having surgery today, I hope everything is going well for you, and that your fears were laid to rest. It really is about getting healthy, and I admire you for tackling something that was hard for you. Hopefully, your doctors and nurses were sensitive to your concerns. I know mine went out of their way to make sure I felt very comfortable.

Titantiff, I hope you don't let these few negative posts send you away. First off, your post was flippin' hilarious - "underoos and sharpies" - lol! Secondly, I've received so much support from this site, and for the most part, I've found people to be very generous with help and resources. Also, if you go to your control panel, you can put posters on ignore. I hope you stay.

Honestly being naked was my biggest issue as well.....but when the day came for my surgery....i was prepared and calm...I remembering taking all my clothes off & putting the gown on..Plus the crazy socks and I was fine. For the first time in my life I was fine being naked in front of medical personal. Body image issues are something most over-weight people deal with....I am glad that I was able to move past the fear of people seeing me naked so that I could improve my quality of life. Thank God for being able to overcome fears!

Yes. I had my surgery done at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson. I was given those booties to wear on my feet, one to put over my hair and the usual hospital gown. It's not that bad though - they are used to seeing people like that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
