In pain and having trouble keeping things down

Recommended Posts

I had my last fill 2 weeks ago today. Last Thursday, I started having issues with reflux, but knew that it was tied to a change in eating times (about 7 hours between lunch & supper) and my menstrual cycle. Had an appointment for a fill today but did not have one. Just met with my NP who agreed that a fill would not be the best thing today. Stick with mushies and fluids.

I got back to the office, stole TWO french fries from the boss and made myself a hot chocolate/protien drink. I've managed to get 3 sips of the drink down and the heartburn hit BIG TIME. I finally ended up doing the mad dash for the bathroom and loosing the drink (and getting splashed in the face with the toilet Water too boot).

I'm still in a decent amount of pain and still dealing with the slime-monster. Any opinions on if this is a "wait & see" thing or if I should get myself to the ER?

Banded 12/04/2007. First incidence of severe sliming/loosing food in over 8 weeks.

Thank you for any and all help.

Hi:

I would recommend that you call your doctor's office. They probably have someone who can answer your question with expertise.

I had a similar problem and my doctor told me that I needed a small unfill. It helped.

Please go to e.r. if the pain is extreme or if you cannot keep liquids down for an extended period of time. Dehydration can be a big problem.

I hope you feel better soon. Please keep us posted.

Take care.

Sue

Hi, I was banded on 12/7/07 and had something similar happen to me this week. I got my 2nd fill last Wednesday, everything was fine until Saturday when I went back to solids. By Saturday night nothing was going down. Sunday I couldn't eat even a few bites of Soup without severe pain. I stuck to liquids all day Sunday and Monday. By Tuesday I had heartburn from drinking 2 oz of a Protein shake. I went ahead and called my doctor. He had put in .6 cc (?) in the previous week. His PA took out .5 and I had immediate relief.

Please don't wait too long. Hopefully a slight unfill will do the trick for you too. I think my hormones played a part in the extreme tightness as well. I never had any problems with my first fill back in February.

The pain subsided. At least until I tried to eat again. I'm going to try going back to liquids and mushies only. If I'm having trouble with that on Friday @ noon, I'll be going in for an unfill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
