 I'm not sure I am doing this right but here goes.

I started researching the lap band procedure in November 2007 and was ready to go in January 2008. On January 1, 2008 my insurance changed policies and they would not cover the surgery so I gave up. Then in August 2008 the hospital called me and said that they were calling to set up my pre-op tests. I was so excited. I called my doctor and my patient advocate said that she had just received the authorization for the surgery. I am so excited I can't sleep. My exam is Sept. 12, 2008 and hopefully I can have the surgery a couple weeks after that. I have been overweight all my life. I am miserable. I weigh 298 lbs and I am only 5'5" tall. I have done so much research and read so many success stories and I just know that I am going to make it this time.

Congratulations !!

Good things come to those who wait ! I also have been waiting all year. My insurance won't pay for my lap band, but in a few months I will be on Medicare and they will cover it.

Enjoy your new adventure and journey and the emerging " new you ".

Best of luck,

Tom

Bridget Brady is my doctor. She is right next to Seton Hospital on 38th Street here in Austin. I have several friends that have gone to doctors in here group. I can't wait. I want to start NOW. Lonestar

Is your doctor, Maria A. Longoria, M.D.? If so, he is in the same office with Bridget Brady, M.D. They have been really nice so far. And I like Dr. Brady. Lonestar

Yes, Dr. Longoria is my doctor. I think Dr. Brady assisted in my surgery, as a matter of fact! Their office has been great to work with.....no complaints!

:rolleyes2:Well, I've done all the testing and my pre-op appointment with Dr. Brady is 09-18-08. My surgery is tentatively set for October 16, 2008 if everything works out with the tests. I am so excited. I think I have read everything there is to read on LapBandTalk. I am glad it's here. I have gotten some great encouragement and lots of great ideas. Thanks to all of you. LSL

Well, all the paper work is done and I started my two week pre-op diet today. Surgery is scheduled on October 3, 2008. YeeHaaaaaaa.

After the surgery and I am on my way to a new and healthier life, I want to start a new thread. But I'm not sure how to. Can some one tell me how to do it?

Thanks,

LSL:thumbup:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
