cookies are the enemy..help me jesus

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have a stock pile of sugar free fudgsicles in my freezer. They are 40 calories a pop. When I get a craving for something sweet I have one of those. I also have the sugar free popsicles, these are 15 calories each. Yes I have Cookies and chips too. These are for my daughter. The chips are the 100 calorie packs. The cookies, regular. Every once in a while I will have a cookie, yea, they yell at me too. I try to ignore them and most times do a pretty good job. But when they yell really loud, I will have one or two. They are real small so I don't feel too bad. It is hard, but we can do this!

Cookies are the work of the devil. They weren't always at the top of my preferred junk food list, but since being banded they shot up there to be equal with ice cream. They became one of my slider foods. Foods that just slip through your band no problem at all.

There are days when my band is tighter than others. Even though I make good food choices, it doesn't mean my band will let them through. It doesn't matter how much I chew, how much I puree the food, if it's not going to go, it's not going to go. But give me a cookie and I could not only eat that, but follow it up with all its friends in the pack! :crying:

I'm not going to try to convince myself never to have another cookie. I don't keep them in my house. If I'm that desperate for one I force myself to walk to the nearest Starbucks and buy one of their cookies or some biscotti. The walk helps ease my guilt and the fact that I only buy one helps as well.

I also forgot to mention that I found something similar to help me out when I have an urge for Cookies. I have Fiber One Protein Bars in my pantry. My favorites are the Oats & Caramel or Oats & Peanut Butter. There are other flavors. They're really nice and would probably be the equivalent of 3 cookies but only have 140 calories. So it might work as an alternative for you as well.

Those fiber one bars are great. They have a lot of fiber in them which is hard for bandsters to get, and they are very satisfying. They even have the mark of Ophras guru diet master Bob Green as being a good food.< /p>

I to am a cookie monster. I also love brownies...... But I have forced myself to ONLY have 2 ginger snaps with my skim milk if I must.... They are lower in fat (Not like the dreaded oreo) and are good for dunking. I have given up all the others. HOWEVER....... Since banding, my curse from the Devil is chips. God help me..... Kettle chips, cheese Nips, Wheat Thins, and Tostitos..... I have no will power. It's awful. why can I control my cookie consumption, and have basically given up all sweets with no problem, but hit the chips with wild abandon???

I'm a mess..... :smile2:

It's a really bad thing about the band that the junk goes down just fine.

I was never a chip eater either, but now I sometimes crave salty. I feel your pain.

I am determined this week to go carb/sweets free. My birthday is sat. and I want to have something on their menu called "big fat chocolate cake" I know I will gain a couple lbs from it, but hopefully by being good all week long, I will have a little wiggle room.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
