Hello, I was banded on Monday June 13th. I thought yesterday I was doing alot better. Today I have noticed the area around my port incision is very red and yellow. It seems like the area of soreness is expanding further from the incision. Is this normal? Could I already be having a reaction to the port? Or could it be just because there is a strange object in my body and this is the way it is accepting it?

Any help would be greatly apprecaited....

Bruising is usually black, blue, green, but then as you heal it lightens up and looks yellowish. When you say red, is the area hot? Tap on the area - does it seem like it's filled with Fluid and ready to pop open? Is it warm, inflammed, red, hot? Any foul odor? Any leaking?

Bruising (even yellow) is normal. Infection is not. I've had 2 ports removed due to infection.

One doctor told me I was rejecting the port, but another doctor told me there's nothing in any medical literature about "rejection." An infected port, however, could lead to "erosion." If you have any of the above symptoms of infection, see your doctor ASAP.

I was banded on the 8th and my incision was nothing like you have. I had no bruising at all. Is the yellow you mention like bruising or actually coming out of the incision? You should call the doctor. I met with my doctor for the first time since surgery and he was actually surprised that I hadn't called him in that time period. Good luck.

I've had bruses go almost right to yellow, so I wouldn't worry about the yellow. If it is hot to the touch, then there would be issues, along with fever.

Take care
