Hi April Bandsters,

I was banded on April 28th with Dr. Smith in Pueblo CO. I have lost 16 1/2 pounds. I had my first fill on 6-8-05, 1.5 cc's. I had a rough time with the fill. I was in the office 3 hours and was it painfull. The doctor wasn't able to locate the port. Finally after 2 ultra sounds he got it done. At first I didn't think it was working, because right after the fill I was able to eat mexican food with no problem, but a few days later I knew I was tighter.

I haven't been able to eat lots of different foods without having to vomit. It has sure been a learning experience for me. But now that I know what not to eat I am doing much better.

I have been struggling with not eating junk food Snacks and I haven't started exercising so I KNOW thats why my weight loss has been slower than it should. I am glad to hear from you other April Bandsters, kudos to all of you! Lets keep this thread going so we can pray and encourage each other.

Take care and God bless you all,

Debbie

I was banded on April 18th and I am down 57 as of today. I want to get my first fill because I can eat more than I know I should although, there is still some level of restriction. I was supposed to have my first fill this past Thursday but the Dr had to cancel. Oh well.... I'll call to reschedule on Monday.

Hey Trish...and everyone!! I finally got my first fill at about week 13. It was 2cc. My US fill doc said that's what Dr Kuri recommends for the first fill so he went with it. All was fine drinking Water on the way home, then I got tight. I got really tight! All I could do all weekend was take small sips of liquids, so last Monday I went and got a small unfill. The doc took out a mere .4cc and I feel SOOOO much better!

So I'm at 1.6cc for my first fill at 14 weeks out, I have lost 24 pounds and finally hit Onederland! I'm 199.8 now. And have been all week. So I'm looking forward to a bit more weight coming off but really, I'm not in a huge hurry. As long as it's a fairly steady loss, I'm happy!

I still worry that my band will erode, as if it's hanging out there, starting to happen and I'm in denial. The ball will finally drop, I'll lose my band, and my hope for getting all of this weight off will end. It's a sense of foreboding, I can't seem to shake it. It kind of hangs around out there. "I could lose my band" Yuck.

Other than that, banded is life is going well. Thank God for LBT or I'd be nuts. Well, maybe I am a little nuts anyway because I do spend a good bit of time on the 'puter. Oh well.

Good job everyone! We are doing it!!!

Hi Everyone,

I was banded on April 21st,05. As of today, I have lost 30 pounds....

I havent really been eating healthy, but I do eat a whole lot less.

I have had 3 fills, 1cc,.25cc,and .50cc, and am going for a 4th fill on 7/22.

Everyone is doing so well, I don't know why, but I can't get motivated to exercise. I am off work for the summer, which makes it easier for me to exercise, as well as eat.... :-(

Anyone have hairloss? I am big time, and I am flipping out over it.

I spoke with my doctor, he says I needed to take Calcium, I am taking that as well as Biotin....any suggestions?

I'm depressed.

Jorjet,

I too have had that hairloss thing giong on, it does seem to be slowing down a bit now but for a couple weeks it was very heavy. (I leave more hair in the sink than my hubby!) I read on another board that for exercising to use a calander and put stickers on the days that you exercise, to give you a visual thing to look at. I have found that very helpful. I bought those little star stickers like teachers put on papers. I find that I like my calander to be very symmetrical so I really keep up with the exercising just to get the stars on that day. May sound foolish but it really does help me, give it a shot.

I lost a good bit of hair during the post-op liquid diet, then again after I got my first fill and did liquids for a week (due to a needed unfil). I'm eating now so it's a bit better.

What I HAVE noticed is my fingernails are a mess. They keep cracking and peeling and GONE is the length I used to have. Well, my left hand is okay but they are more brittle. I should eat more Jello but it take forever to get them back and healthy again!!!!!

I was banded on April 29th and have lost 40 lbs to date!Im feeling pretty ok,I went to my doctor last thursday and he suggested that i get re-opened and he take the stitches out. Luckily it wouldnt be under gen anesthetia(?) since i dont do well with it,just a local and a sedative. Im thinking about it since my port has been painful from about 3 weeks post op and especially painful the last couple weeks. There arent many risks involved and hey i might actually start feeling better=) Other then that i am now enjoying shopping and its not so terribley upseting to go out in public.

I have many fears especially with my port, that they will have to take the band out or something weird will happen and i wont be able to have it. My doctor reassures me that i will though. Its just such an amazing thing it makes me scared to think about it being taken away!

Also, I had bad hairloss during the liquids and puree shase but it has gotten better-i have very thick long hair so ive always lost a good amount in the drain,so know i'd say its pretty normal...

Anyways theres my update!!!I hope everyone is doing wonderful!!!=-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
