Hi Serenedeer

I've been in recovery in AA for 5 year. Got the band not quiet 2 weeks ago myself. I'm worried about my ism's as well. What new and wonderful addictive and destructive behavour can I dream up to take the place of food... or even better.. will I dream up creative ways to beat and band and set myself up for failer. Oh yah,,the ism's are there. I went to an AA meeting tonight and although it was about alcohol, it applied to weight loss to me now. In an odd way, the band is my higher power right now. I have to accept it, use it as it should be used. I do have a real higher power but this twisted way of thinking kinda helped me make it work.

hi everyone,

i'm sober 22 years and was banded 3 1/2 years ago. my isms didnt really crop up while i was losing weight. the band actually took the physical hunger away. so i wasnt really thinking of food....

now that i am maintaining and decided to unfill my band (plus getting married in 7 weeks) ...i am dealing a little more with the food issues. so i've added extra meetings to my week.

i'm not going to OA. i really never felt an affinity to that program but i am doing AA/Alanon/ACA. i also just picked up the new geneen roth book about spirituality and food recovery.

anyway good luck with your bands. the slogan "it works if you work it" from AA really applies to the band as well.

I've been sober/clean for a few years also and now I'm working in another 12 step program because aparently I am the Queen of Compulsion land. Its great to meet others walking the same path.

Lap Band = higher power is an interesting concept. I like it. Keep us posted how it goes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
