hiccups and burping.

Recommended Posts

I am 2 1/2 months out from getting banded. I just got my 2nd fill on Sept 2nd. I could not tell any differnce since my surgery until now. My question is Does anyone else seem to get the hiccups and burp a lot just a few bites after eating? Does this mean your full and stop eating? Sometimes it is very painful.

Sometimes when I think I eat too much I get the burps I wonder if that is a sign that you did eat too much. I would love to know this too!!

I get the hiccups CONSTANTLY. It doesn't matter if I'm eating or drinking. My Dr. told me they probably irritated a nerve when they placed my port and I'm probably stuck with them for the rest of my life. They come is short bursts, 3 or 4 at a time, but I get them several times a day. They don't hurt at all...just get kind of annoying.

I get hiccups sometimes after eating, and burps too, small ones. I am not sure if I am eating too fast, or maybe not chewing enough. They subside after a short time, so I don't worry. With the hiccups, hold your ears like a little kid who doesn't want to listen, and swallow a few times. That should quiet them.

I was told that when you belch that is a sign that you have had enough food in that particular sitting . I do find this to be true. When I try to eat more after the initial belching( burping) then I get uncomfortable.

As far as the hiccups go, I have never heard anything abou that.

I burp for about an hour after I eat, thank goodness they are small and quiet! I have figured out though that the little burps start about 2 or 3 bites before I feel full so I'm taking them as my sign to stop eating. If I could just figure out how to stop one bite before they start I'd be set!

Hello All, It has been a long time since I have been on and need to reintroduce myself. I was banded in Ohio in Feb. 2007 and have lost over 100 pounds. I just found out that my surgeon and bariatric group is no longer available and am looking for someone in the Cincinnati area for future follow up and fills. I need it to work with my insurance (Anthem BC/BS). Any suggestions are welcome. Also, I am having a problem with gas. It is only in the form of belching and it smells horrible. It is mainly when I have forgotten to eat and get 'too hungry'. Kind of like a reminder that I need to fuel up. The worst part is, I get it while digesting too. I have tried gas-x and mints. Five gum seems to be about the only thing that masks the odor. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks for your assistance!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
