Accountability

I did my 3rd additional exercise yesterday - that's my 3 for the week.

And then this morning, because I forgot my office keys, I paced for an hour and ten minutes waiting for a coworker to arrive. And it was a semi-brisk pace (I didn't want to go too fast and build up a sweat and be stinky for the day, but it was not a stroll either). So, a little extra this week...yeah!

Nice Tap! Love to see you made the most of that time. It probably burned another 300 calories for you. Yay!

How's everyone doing today? I lost another half pound so I only have 1 more to go to get back to where I was. I have been eating halfway great and halfway crappy. I do well for most of the day but at night when I'm home trying to unwind and get rid of some of the stress I turn to junk. At least the sherbet is almost gone again. I know I won't have the last of it tonight because I got stuff to make the yummy Balsamic Strawberries with Ricotta Cream. Mmmmmmmm and only 180 calories.

Well, I'm off to shower and get ready to deal with the insurance company today. They denied my husband his acute rehab and want him to go to a nursing home instead. The occupational therapist, physical therapist, several doctors, nurses and social workers all think he needs intensive therapy. They said if the insurance doesn't approve it they might as well send him home since the other is worthless. I spent all day yesterday dealing with insurance, the hospital and food services. Looks like today will be another uphill battle. Damn I wish it counted as exercise. LOL

Oh I'm so sorry Ezma. Insurance companies can be such ASSHOLES! Like know more than your doctors, nurses, etc. Who are they to decide what is best for your husband? That is the Doctors job, the nurses job, and the therapist job to know what would help him. They are pencil pushing money grubbing bad people. Stay strong, calm, and ready. I wish I could help in some way.

Um...I almost hate to say it in case it's another scale trick buuuuut

6 pounds in two days!!!!!!!!!

That's fabulous!!! You have SO earned this positive news; we are all rooting for you!

Ezma: I am sorry to hear of your battle with bureacracy; the fact that you can keep on the straight and narrow at all is a testament to your strength. Yah you!!!

Way to go Ready!!! And I don't think it's a scale trick. You got a fill and were on liquids, it's gonna go down. Keep it tight and watch what goes in the body and I know you'll fly down the pounds over the next week.

Thanks for the motivation guys. Hubby and I made the call to insurance and they show it's still pending, no decision showing on their side. Now I just have to wait for the hospital person to get in so we can check their side and if we have to, do a peer to peer or appeal. Last time, when they found the first tumor, the only thing that brought me to my knees was dealing with all this kind of BS. Same this time - I lost it last night as was a total bitch to the insurance. Hubby was crying this morning. Gahhhhhh!!! Doing much better now though. I really understand "Live Strong" better now. Gonna go watch "You Are What You Eat". That show makes me laugh and inspires me.

This weekend I've had icecream, funnel cake, chinese food. It has not been a great diet weekend at all....

.

Oh RSG, that was yesterday. Today is another day - I hope there are no leftovers in the house though!! If there are, do yourself a favor and ditch them!

I am about to start another day too. Yesterday was less than perfect. Plus, I think I ended up getting too much sodium with the hospital food and junk so I'm holding a bit of Water again. I was up 1 pound today. Time to pump the water in me again.

How's it going for everyone else?

RSG and Ezma, no worries.. just get up and dust yourself off. We're all in this for the long haul. I'm pulling you all!

My first week on Phase I of South Beach was a success. I stayed on course except I did have some lite fruit juice yesterday. I believe I have been having a headache for lack of carbs. I'm doing this to break my addiction, but not hurt my body. I'm still losing weight regardless.

This weeks totals From Sunday thru Saturday are exactly 10 Lbs. lost. Wow!! I hope I can pull that next week.. LOL

Hey everyone.. HAPPY BANDING!

Think I'm going to have to give that some serious thought. I forgot how fast it can fly off when you get rid of most of the carbs. I still think it's better and more satisfying to eat some complex carbs in your diet but a jump start to some more loss would be really nice.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
