WhooHoo....I've started losing again...only a lb, but I'll take it. I'm just 3/4 of a lb. higher than my lowest weight of 145 !/2. I was a little worried I wouldn't have lost anything since I had chili last night. Not that the chili is a problem, but the fritos that I have to have with the chili that kicks me in the ass, weightloss wise! I haven't gone to the gym yet today, but I am planning on it. Have a great day everyone! Joanie :cursing:)

I need a fill so badly. I'm really struggling right now. I'm hungry all the time and having a lot of stress due to some health issues my husband is having so I know I'm making crappy choices. I won't have a fill until 10/13 and can't get in earlier so I have to manage until then.

Any ideas on low calorie filling Snacks that aren't veggies? I have a hard time getting veggies down (plus I'm not a big fan of most).

Shiny/skinny/happy - Do you suppose there is a cosmic force that tries to keep a steady weight on the earth, so if one person loses another must gain??? I know your frustration, and hope it gives you strength to fight on....

That's pretty funny. Wouldn't that just be crazy if it were actually the case?

I had dh leave the scale out for this week and so this morning, I'm happy to report, I was down two from yesterday, giving me a one-pound loss from last week's official weigh in.

I'm continuing to up my exercise intensity. I just started a lower body workout today that really kicked my butt! I'm also on week 3 of Couch to 5K. I'm still determined and working hard. Not feeling too frustrated about any of it. It'll come. That's me this week. We'll see next week.

Also, we're waiting to hear on another position my dh interviewed for on Monday. We'll know by the end of the week. It's in Spokane, Washington. I'll let you guys know. :)

Jamie,

I'm sorry you're going through a rough time with dh's health (and you too, Ezma). Hang in there.

Some of my favorite snacks:

Turkey Pepperoni with a small chunk of cheese inside. I just wrap it up in half like a little taco. I use cheddar, but mozarella would be tasty and healthier. Turkey pepperoni is surprisingly low in fat and high in Protein. It's a bit drier than the real stuff, but it's pretty good.

tuna and cream cheese on crackers: This will be healthier if put on whole grain crackers, but I'll admit I often use Club or Ritz. Kashi makes some TLC crackers that work well. I can't buy these in my town, so I don't get to use them very often. Okay, enough excuses. How I make these is to spread some 1/3 less fat cream cheese (Neufchatel Cheese) onto a cracker and then flake some Sweet-n-Spicy Starfish Tuna (from the foil pouch) onto the cream cheese. They are delicious. My kids love them as well. You could use any flavored tuna, salmon, etc. I've seen these made with Smoked Salmon and topped with capers.

Apples are coming in season, an apple with a string cheese is such a great snack. I alternate bites, so I get both apple and cheese together. Yummy.

One of my best breakfasts could also be used as a snack: cottage cheese and either canned pears (no sugar) or cubed cantaloupe. Cantaloupe is about gone for the season, but I've been enjoying it all summer long.

Of course you'll have to disregard any of these that go against your own dietary goals and guidelines, but these are just some of the foods I enjoy. Hope it was helpful.

Well, according to MY scale I have lost nothing this week, according to their scale I have lost 6lbs six my last fill...but I think it was a false reading since their scale last time weighed me a lot higher than I thought it should.

Sooo, there. I confessed. But I got a large fill and I think this one will have me set, hopefully. I'm on Clear liquids right now so I will know in a couple of days.

Keep your fingers crossed for me, chicas.

Jaime - I'm so sorry to hear you're having to deal with something as stressful as health problems in a loved one. He's in our thoughts and prayers. Hope all works out well soon.

Im sorry to hear about your husbands health issues; I hope all are resolved soon. Stress eating is just SOOO easy; my mind is on something else so it doesn't even feel the messages from my stomach. Shinyhappy had some great ideas; I would indulge in low fat cheeses - I love cheese, but the regular kind is high in fat.

I'm continuing to up my exercise intensity. I just started a lower body workout today that really kicked my butt! I'm also on week 3 of Couch to 5K. I'm still determined and working hard. Not feeling too frustrated about any of it. It'll come. That's me this week. We'll see next week.

I've looked at (a few times) the couch to 5K but I haven't got past 'looking' at it. Unfortunately, looking at it doesn't count, does it? Good luck on your extra exercise, and on DH's job search.

Believe THEIR scale RSG. They are calibrated and tend to be more reliable than regular ones. Besides, a 6 lb loss would do wonders for your psyche!! Believe it!!

Jaime- I like to take imitation crab leg meat (the kind in strips) and wrap 1/2 a peice of mozzarella around it- the kind made of skim milk would probably be best. I hope your husband gets better soon. Good luck honey. I know about having to wait for fills when you are starving. It's hard, but you have done so well I know you can do it. Hang in there, doll. I like to eat an avocado half sometimes, now have a lot of fat, but it's good fat. I wouldn't eat too many, but sometimes they are my comfort food now, since I can't have bread and I won't let myself have icecream.

Tapshoes- Okay I will believe that I am losing about a 1 lb a week previously, but with this fill I am determined to lose at least 2 lbs a week to kick this off. I am gonna work my butt off, literally I hope.

Diva- You go Girl! You are doing so flipping awesome. I bet you feel so much better. I'm glad your posting again too, I missed you more than icecream. ;) And that's a lot.

Shiny happy Money- tuna and cream cheese on crackers is one of my favorites too. MMMMM Well Anykind of meat with any kind of soft cheese on any kind of cracker is yummy. Right now I have harvarti in my fridge, which is a little too salty, but I wanted to try it. My favorite favorite is real fresh soft squishy mozzarella, but I like it too much so I don't buy it too often.

Slowmover- Congrats dear :cool2:

Jaime - Things I like are lite Jarlsberg cheese or lite Laughing Cow cheese, both about 50 calories. Strawberries, heck, any kind of fruit is good. I also Quaker rice cakes, especially the cheddar ones, are great. Only bad things about the rices cakes are that the sodium is high and you really have to measure out your 9 cake serving and hide the bag. It's only 70 calories but it's so easy to eat just one more.

Lil - Congrats! I bet that has you inspired all over again. It's just what you needed to find that long lost motivation.

Ready - I'm so happy that you got a good, solid fill. It will help you so much. And the days of liquids and mushies should give you a good jump start on the weight loss. You inspire me. Even though you've been having a tough time because you don't have good restriction, you hang in there. You always come back to motivate yourself again and are upbeat and positive most of the time. I wanna be like RSG!!

Tap - Good morning. How are you? You've done so well controlling your nut addition. I'd love to syphon off some of your willpower. No, it's more like I want to clone it as I'd hate to deplete your supply in any way.

Aww.. You know, I've missed you all too! I've been hiding away - and look what happens when I'm lost to my motivators. Well, I'm ba-aa-aak and with a vengeance. I'm so motivated right now its not even funny. I've not strayed an iota from my plan, and it's smooth sailing right now!

Did you just say ice-cream?? Hehe!

Lil - Congrats! I bet that has you inspired all over again. It's just what you needed to find that long lost motivation.

Ezma! I am more inspired now to reach that finish line than I believe I was pre-banding. Something just awoke inside me, and made me realize that I AM WORTH IT!! I can accomplish anything! Life is grand!!

WOW - Way to go Lil Miss and RSG. Your weight losses (and more importantly) your ATTITUDE are great!

Question: do all of your doc's put you on liquids and mushies post fill? My guy - just fluids for 24 hours, and then regular eating. Maybe when I get my next fill, I will try for a longer period of liquids...nah, wouldn't happen. I know myself too well.

Thanks for all of the snack ideas! I love cheese, always keep low fat cheddar and string cheese in the house. I didn't think about rice cakes. I'll have to pick some up when I go shopping this weekend. I've been eating a lot of pretzels and 100 cal popcorn. Crunchy Snacks are my downfall so it helps me avoid chips.

We got some good news about my husband yesterday, but we're still not sure exactly what is going on. He has been having a deterioration in his cognitive functioning for a few years now. He was diagnosed with ADHD but we're not sure if that's it or not. Then during the last two weeks, he starting having headaches, dizzy spells, and some other weird symptoms, so his neurologist sent him for an MRI. I was really freaking out, worried that he had a brain tumor. The MRI came back negative, thank God. I'm waiting to hear back from his neuro now, so we can figure out the next step. I'm still worried, but at least we've ruled out the most serious problem.

Jaime - I'm so glad to hear you don't have to deal with a brain tumor. It sucks!!!! Hopefully it will be something really easy to fix for your husband.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
