Trouble in Paradise

Recommended Posts

So yesturday I was having extreme and I mean EXTREME lower abdominal pain. I had just had my surgery on Wednesday so I called my surgeon. She told me that it didn't sound like anything band related and that it sounded me like either my appendix or a gyn problem. So I waited it out for a little longer and then it finally got so bad that I had to be taken to the E.R. by ambulance last night. I get to the E.R. and they draw some blood, take some urine, and do a ct scan. In the ct scan they see a mass of something. So then they send me for an ultrasound and they find the mass. It's a little bigger than my uterus and it's covering my right ovary. Then they tell me that it's a cyst that's hemoraging. I said ok so where do we go from here then and the doctor tells me oh we just treat the pain and wait for it to go away...So as soon as I was starting to feel better from surgery this crap happens...*sigh*. Anyone else have unrelated band problems that showed up right after surgery or anything? Also any advice on different things to eat while on the liquids diet...? Thanks for listening to my rant

Had you had any gynocological problems pre-banding?

I'm sorry to hear about the pain you are having. I have had ovarian cysts since I was a teenager, I've even had them rupture and I know how painful it can be. I honestly do not think it's related at all to the band, it's just bad timing. I hope you feel better soon!

Cysts are fairly common.. in fact many women have them and never know.. the only time you find out is if it's large enough that the pain is intense.

I ended up in the hospital 4 days post-op, thinking I had a blood clot in my lung, I had severe chest pains. I don't think they ever said it was anything, or if they did I forget.

This year I ended up in the ER for strong abdomenal cramping, it actually made me pass out from the pain 2 times.

Everyone thought it was false contractions (was not pregnant though), because they had a regular pattern. They did ultrasounds, and mentioned ovary cysts they saw-- but told me they're normal and would likely not be the source of my pain.

After all the wahoo, they said they thought it was reminents of food poisoning (which I don't remember having), and the pains stopped the next day.. so there's that.

The only thing that I am having problems with is my shoulder dislocating. It started happening right after surgery. I can't reach above my head or low to pick anything up without it dislocating and causing extreme sharp pains. All I can figure is they must have pulled on my arm trying to move my fat butt from the bed to the table. I didn't have this problem before surgery, so that is all I can think of to cause it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
