Pre-op weight loss goal?

Recommended Posts

I don't even have a surgery date yet, but they've taken the weight they are going to submit to ins, so I can start trying to lose now. I probably won't lose much, but I've heard you can drop 10-20lbs in the 2 week pre op diet alone.

I think I'm going to set a goal of 20lbs pre op weight loss. My surgery will most likely be in a month, maybe/hopefully a tiny bit less.

Sound unrealistic?

I have been on my pre-op diet for 5 days and have lost 7.5 lbs. I am not having surgery for 2-3 weeks. Still setting the date with the doc and proctor.

I don't think 20 lbs is unrealistic, not after seeing how the weight is coming off for me so far.

The dr. puts in your weight to the insurance now for approval, do they have to report it again? That is what Im worried about. I am about 37 BMI and my insurance says I have to be above 35 with medical conditions. I have been worried if I lose some during the pre op diet that they will then decline me.

According to my surgeon's office, the weight that they submit to insurance is the weight that they use for consideration. After that, any weight loss is just gravy.

That is so great to know!! I have been so worried about that since my BMI is already boarder line.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
