Hi everyone! First time to post. Banded 9/5/08 in Texas with Dr. Cribbins. I read alot on the site to prepare, but I feel like I didn't fully understand the extent of the surgery. I'm not a baby...had 3 c-sections, hysto, and 2 breast cyst removed...but this hit me like a truck. Took pain med for 2 days, fri and sat, and am still feeling like I'm drugged today. Worried about not getting enough liquids. Removed the On-Q pump this morning. Will return to work tomorrow. Will continue to read up on everything. I'm so glad I have this forum. More later!

The surgery hits everyone differently. It wasn't any big deal for me, I removed the Q ball thing the MINUTE I got home...it bothered me more than the pain! All told I took 2 pain pills....but everyone is different! It sounds to me like you should maybe take tomorrow off from work too; any way you can do that? It takes a while to clear the anesthesia! Glad you are through it!

Hi Pettstar! Glad you found us. I've also learned so much from reading everyone's posts. It's one thing to read all the materials about how things "should" go, and quite another to read about the real life experiences of fellow banders.

I'm just a day ahead of you; I was banded Thursday. My only pain now is in my port area. I feel tons better leaning back than sitting up straight.

I also had the ON-Q Pump and loved it. What a little miracle that was. I could tell the difference when it ran out of juice.

Welcome to LBT and good luck going back to work tomorrow!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
