Hi, I am just ding the research part of this long process. I was wondering if anyone had too good or too bad of an experience with this doctor. All opinions are welcome! If you have a special doctor, please share. Thanks.

Last year I went to a lap band seminar hosted by Dr. Spivak. He had a very informative powerpoint presentation and answered everyone's questions thoroughly. I thought he was very nice and enjoyed meeting him but in the end I picked a different surgeon. Not that anything was wrong with Dr. Spivak; I just preferred to use my bariatric specialist's recommendation. Hope this helps a bit.

See Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum - Search Results . If that link doesn't work go to the advanced search link at the top right of this page or Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum - Search Forums , enter spivak as your keyword, right beneath that select search titles only. You'll find quite a few posts with the info you're looking for.

I know of Dr Spivak because of his commericals but I just wanted to tell you about Dr. Bradley Waggoner, he does his surgery out of the new North Cypress Medical Center and he is fantastic. Heres the # to his office if you would like to contact them.281-640-8373. Good Luck!!!

Well, I went through True Results in Houston, where Spivak works.

Honestly, one of my first questions was whether he would be my surgeon. I was happy when they appointed me to one I hadn't heard of, because spivak seems like a publicity hound, and I don't have any plans having my picture on a billboard.

I am sure he is a fine enough surgeon, but too much publicity for me.

Spivak is a legend. Having a chance to go with him I think is a great option. His seminar was very straight forward. He said, I'm going to tell you how it really is, and not try to sell you. He gave us a very sobering presentation about the challenges. He said he does 60% lap band and 40% Gastric Bypass today. (and I assume he will the Sleeve)

I had a one on one consultation with him as everyone did where we discussed how to deal with a hernia I have. He asked questions and listened with great patience. And, he has never lost a patient doing either GB or Lap Band and was first to do Lap Band in Texas.

His staff is highly recommended by his patients. I have spoken to many of them. Please go with whom you want to, but cast no dispersions on Dr. Spivak unless you have a good reason.

And Steve, I didn't see an ego at all. He did seem confident, but want him to be confident. Cocky? Not even close in my one meeting with him.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
