I'm not sure what you ate, or what your diet is supposed to be, I never had any problems with over-eating the designated diet.

I did get really hungry on day 4 and 5. I felt sick from being hungry... on day 5 I actually had 1/2 of an Atkins Protein Drink, which wasn't on my clear liquid diet, but I felt so much better. I'm about a week ahead of you right now. Once you're into full liquids it is much easier. I start mushies now. Your initial diet is designed that way for a reason. You are relearning to eat and your body is healing. My band buddy told me what I did wasn't cheating and that our nutritionist even told her she could have a Protein Shake if she needed to during the first week. But she did warn me not to jump ahead on any of the other stages. So I didn't.

On week 1, I was already planning my first 'real' meal... but it has changed about 5 times already! LOL! Is it really worth messing up the band you just got? Just keep telling yourself that it isn't worth messing things up and get back on track. Try not to cheat while your body is healing.

Themis,

Thanks for your reply. It's so hard I am coming from a place where food was my friend for so many years! If I was sad my "friend" was always there to comfort me. I always knew I could turn to my "friend" Unfortunatly now I need to find a new "friend" one that isn't food!

It's a hard adjustment. By me I am allowed pureed food now, it didn't help me from cheating though. It wasn't awful cheating but bad enough that I feel awful. Thanks for all your support! We are here to help each other! andteh band buddy sounds like a great idea! Thanks!

Hey Collegegirl22! It is a very difficult adjustment, and I think no matter what stage you are at it is a challenge. I am 5 months out of surgery now, and I have fallen off the wagon. I am actually concerned that I may have dialated my new stomach pouch, but I am going to consult with my surgeon this Thursday. I guess I am just not sure if I over eat or not. Somedays I can eat a lot and some days I can eat very little. So I am at an unsure place.

My perspective has always been to communicate with your surgeon. My surgeon has been a great help to me; and so has this site.

Band buddies are great! I'll tell you what, if you get back on the wagon and stop cheating, I promise I will too. food was my friend for a long time too, it is important for us to find something else to occupy our time. I went back to school after 16 years, it is helping.

Good luck, and you will be successful, it just takes time!

Take care!

No problem! My band buddy is awesome. I found her by doing a search on the forum by my doctor's name. We've been writing since before my surgery.. She even got free fills because I told the doctor she referred me. She earned it by answering my thousands of questions between then and now.

To me, it was great having a band buddy with the same doctor so you have the same set of rules to go by and even though you may not have the same symptoms, she was there for me all the way. We're even talking about getting fills the same day. Her surgery was a year ago, but she's getting another fill around the same time I'm getting my first. But she's offered to be there for me at every step. Called me after the surgery and everything. She's awesome and she's lost over 100 pounds this past year, so to me she's the perfect person for me to buddy with.

I hope you can find some one like that to buddy with, it really helps. She keeps me honest too!

How much weight did you loose since you were banded? school is a great idea! I find keeping busy is the best bec. that way your out of the house and not thinking abt. food all the time! I wish you luck and yes Let's both support each other, seriously I want to start tomorrow with eating healthy and no junk and we will do this together. Be in touch! do you have instant message?

Hey CG!

I have been very good, I have not cheated. I went to the doc the other day, and he actually took Fluid out, he said I was too tight and that's why I was snacking so much. I have lost 55lbs since 4/14/08 when I was banded. I know it is a success, but I wish it was more. I haven't lost anything in the last few weeks, but I am hoping with the band being adjusted again I will get back on the way to being thin.

I do have im, but am rarely on it, but it is AIM - neptune693, YAHOO - bearforcub, and MSN - neptune693. Maybe I will see you on sometime.

Hope this finds you well, and feeling good. Take care, and we will talk soon!

*hugs*

Jason

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
