What is an ap band??? Newbie here!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all! My name is Amber and I was banded on 8/26/08. I didnt know there was different types of bands but when I found out I called my Doctor and the nurse said I had a AP large that holds 14cc's. Does anyone know anything about this band? Is it new? I would love to be able to see a picture of this band so if anyone has a pic please post a link. THANKS A BUNCH!!!

I don't know but if it's the 14 cc one I hope it's the one I have! I do have "large AP band" because I asked in recovery. Seems like that way we get more adjustment potential!

I'll ask my doc when I go in on Oct 9 but that won't help you now!

Ok I googled it. AP stands for "Advanced Performance" and it comes in APS (small) and APL (large) It is the new improved lap band...less chance of slippage and erosion, more fill power, better positive results. We got us a good one! :)

I think there's AP Small and AP Large. Hope I got "large" (and I think I did) I like the idea of 14 cc's

I just got a small AP band on August 29. I believe it is because I have a smaller frame. He seemed to be "eyeballing" the rib cage area when he told me he would probably be using the small one for my size. HOWEVER....I have not asked him since then so I really don't know. I seem to remember reading somewher that a lot of people get a card saying exactly what they have "installed" in their body. Anyone get such a thing?

Here in Hawaii, Kaiser Hospital they have ap regular or ap large. The Dr. makes the decision at surgery time. He said 9 out of 10 people use the regular. I was put the regular.:thumbup:

Yes I got one after surgery. On the front it has a diagram of a stomach with the lapband around it and the text at the top says "LAP-BAND MEDICAL INFORMATION, Dr. Trace Curry at the bottom and some writing in the middle. On the back there's writing in another language and a little white sticker that says "LAP-BAND AP Std. with Access Port II. My maximum fill volume is 10cc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
