Please help banded 6/13/08 3 fills down no loss

Recommended Posts

I am not understanding what is going on, I have had 3 fills since surgery and this last one is the only on that gave me minor restriction like i had something in me, but it still is not enough. I startedt off at 286 now i am 272. people told me it would be easier to lose weight since i am only 21 but I feel like I am letting my parents down (who paid cash), people who are supporting me down and it is getting horrible. I don't eat bad foods, I took the doctor advise and have limited my self to tuna and wheat thin and I still can't lose....I need help fast i plan on getting my 4th fill next thursday hopefully it wi make a difference......but if anyone has some advice please let me know

Hi! I hope your next fill makes a difference for you. I have had 2 fills (now have 4cc in a 10 cc band). My second fill really made a difference. I had been at the same weight for almost 4 weeks. Since my fill I have lost 10+ lbs.

It does sound to me like it is a matter of finding your sweet spot.

Not getting enough calories can be as bad for weight loss as getting too many. Do you know how many calories you are taking in daily? I've seen many people report that eating in the upper range of recommended calories each day got them off of a plateau.

I agree with Misty. Please make sure you are getting between 1000-1200 calories per day. Any less than that and your body goes into starvation mode and holds on to every bit of fat it can. Stop worrying about letting other people down. Give yourself a break. The worrying will only make you feel worse. If you can, get some extra walks or other forms of exercise in. It will make you feel better emotionally and physically.

That being said, you may need another fill, but please do check your calorie intake. Also, make sure you are getting enough fluids each day. I find that is the hardest thing to do.

Keep us updated and good luck! And remember, STOP BEING SO HARD ON YOURSELF! Even if you feel you aren't doing well, you HAVE lost weight, so that is a move in the right direction.

My wife and I had Surgery May 7th and have only lost a few pounds, BUT, we have both lost inches, I am now wearing cloaths I have not worn for 2 yrs and I went to the store and bought an XL shirt, I have been wearing 3x for years. So what I am saying is look at yourself and ask are you loosing inches, The pounds will come, but if you knew my wife and I you would see we are both looking thinner even if we havn't lost the weight, YET. We go for our 3rd fill Monday, if you read enough of the bloggs on this fantastic website you will see everyone looses at a different pace and now I would suggest to everyone before surgery take pictures and measure your whole body.

She and I took pictures but didn't measure, but I have added 3 holes to my belt and my paints are falling away from my butt.

Also, you said you had 3 fills? how many CC's? Some Dr's play it safe and add .5cc each time where others are more aggressive, ours uses a floriscope so he can be more aggressive.

Good luck and don't be in a hurry, eat good healthy food.

My advise is to

1. Keep a log of what you eat with volume, calories, Protein. Calculate over a few days how many calories you are eating. It is vital to get enough calories.

2. Eat a variety of foods--only tuna and wheat thins is unrealistic in the long run (sorry to disagree with your Doc). Do eat your Protein first but chicken is also a good source and I like to order a small ground sirloin steak and mashed potatoes when we eat out (which is often). I share the steak with someone because the steaks are usually too big.

3. Drink recommended fluids--difficult to do but important (I get a score of "F" for this one)

4. Get recommended protein

5. Exercise (I walk 3 miles a day 3-4 days a week)

6. Take your Vitamins, yada yada (I also get an "F" here).

7. Quit eating when you even begin to feel full--stop taking those extra "couple" of bites (another "F" for me--I'm still getting used to this one).

8. Give each fill a few weeks to kick in. I was disappointed after my first (and only) fill but after a couple of weeks it really started to make a difference.

9. You might also try to follow a specific weight loss program as a tool. I like Weight Watchers because it has worked for me before but the Band has given me that extra tool that WW alone couldn't do. There are a lot of healthy alternatives and maybe one has worked well for you in the past. It's just a way to organize, in a sense, all your food choices and sets some boundaries that just "feeling full" alone may not have.

Thanks for reading my two cents. God Bless!

Being honest with myself by keeping a food journal on thedailyplate.com

has made all the difference in the world. I hate to food journal and

keeping one online that gives me all the breakdowns has made it super

easy. And it's free to use the site. I hated the idea of a food journal before but being able to search for the food I ate and not having to write it all down myself has made it super easy to keep up with. I'm glad I got over my fear. It's a FACT that people that keep a food journal vs. people that do not loose twice as much weight. :)

minor restriction

In most cases this will not be enough, remember your Doc works for you! you pay him so you are in charge. Call him up tell him you knee another fill.

I sure when you get some good restriction going you will see the pounds start coming off.

Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
