BEST NSV EVER! This make it ALL worth it!

Recommended Posts

I have to share what happened to me last night. It truly is the best thing ANYONE has said to me in a LONG time! I am so happy, I am still on cloud 9.

SO I went to a reunion show for a HS band I loved with much distress. I haven't seen almost all of the people in 15 years. (Class of 95) I didn't go to any of my class reuinions because I was fat and disgusting. I wasn't fat in school at all. I was a model for Ford, so I always thought I had peaked in high school.

Well a guy that I had a crush on in high school leaned over to me last night and said

"Don't take this the wrong way because I am married but you look better now than you did in high school."

I wanted to cry and kiss him. I just smiled and said thank you, while inside I was doing the happy dance. Everyone was telling me how good I looked, I even got a bit of revenge with an old boyfriend.

Last night made it all worth it! I love my band!

You're right...that makes it all worth it. Congrats on your success...you're definitely an inspiration to me (being banded on the 18th of Sept). God Bless.

How wonderful for you! That must have felt amazing. You are a true inspiration for bandsters. I have seen your posts here regarding your journey with your band and through your plastic surgery. You are an amazing person who always seem to have good advice to give. Thank you.

That is sooo COOL!!!!!

I graduated in '86 and haven't been to any of my HS reunions either (not even my 20th, 2 yrs ago!). For the same reason. I was thin in HS and started gaining after I got married at 19. I didn't feel comfortable going. I plan on going to the next one, even if I'm not at goal yet. I think I'll just be feeling better about myself. I have seen a few people since that still live here and I hate meeting up with them. Of course no one has said anything but my imagination fills in the blanks for me! UGH!!

Thanks for sharing your NSV!!!

Girl, I knew you'd rock it!!

I'm in the same boat as you. In highschool I was 120 something and hot. So, I missed my last two highschool reunions because I was so embarrassed!! But, the 20 year reunion is coming up in 2011.. a long ways away, but I'm gonna go...and I hope I can look as good as you and have people say that stuff to me girl. Hey, you have to tell me what you ended up wearing..

Thanks! lol...It was so much fun. I am so glad I went. It was the best time I have had in YEARS!

And yes the outfit freaking rocked. The 4" heels were the best choice. I got tons of comments on how hot my ass looked. THAT only happens in really high shoes for me...lol..

Awww that is a good story. May I ad some adlib to spice it up a little (for entertainment sake!!)

SO I went to a reunion show for a HS band I loved with much distress. I took a lot of time picking out a pretty outfit, complete with shimmery nude stockings with butt support!

"Don't take this the wrong way, you tucked your skirt into your pantyhose.. and I like what I see!"

I wanted to cry and kiss him, instead I did a little bow to play it off! I smiled and said thank you, while I was adjusting my skirt. Everyone was telling me how good I looked, I even got a bit of revenge with an old boyfriend who saw the show--and never got to see this show when we were together!

I dunno, I told you I'm bored.

Oh what a great compliment BOOBOO! My 25 year reunion is coming up next year. However, I start meeting with the reunion committee the end of this month. I can't wait to see everyone because the last time they saw me was at the 20 year reunion and I was about 80 lbs heavier!

My ex boyfriend (who totally broke my heart and dumped me cold) will be there. Ahhhhh, can't wait to see his face when he sees me! Yes, revenge is so sweet!

Wow Brandy! You go girl.

I went to my high school reunion (10 year) and wish I hadn't! I was a size 8/10 in high school and 24 at my reunion. NO ONE RECOGNIZED ME! No one! They would read my name tag and look at my face and then it would click. It was awful! I didn't dance or anything. I had some friends pick on me - So you're too good to dance now. I told them no - I just can't do it anymore...it wears me out and my back hurts.

I'm so glad you have a great time! You rock girlie! What a great NSV!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
