Can someone please help with a food list

Recommended Posts

I know everyone is different but is there a rough list of foods that don't go well with the band?

I understand that carbonated drinks, high calorie beverages, ice cream and anything soft like chocolate should all be cut out. But what do the docs mean when they say no fibrous food? Can someone give me a good list of fibrous foods because I'm a bit confused. What about things like spicy foods?

Also, I am 3 weeks in and if I chew well, I can eat bread ok. Will that change or am I going to be of the few that can tolerate bread?

Hi Guys

sorry i have been gone for a while. My mother has been very ill.Anyway i am not doing to good with this lapband stuff.I can hardly eat anyhing without having to go to the bathroom. I am so embarrsed by this.Especially when i go out to eat with my family. I have gone to a nurse practioneer that is suppose to know what to do.But she always tells me that it is probably to much gas or air in my port,Hell sometimes i dont think she knows what she is doing,I have not lost but 25 lbs since having it done in jan-08 My doctor that did my surgery is 4 hrs away.He sends you to this nurse here local.I am sick of this. Please can anyone give me heads up or is this normal.

Fiberous foods-- I think those are things like asparagus and pineapple. My doc said they are hard to digest.

As for Frogs, I think you need to drive the four hours to see your actual surgeon. It sounds like you need to have a check up because you shouldn't be having those problems.

Fibrous foods are things like celery, pineapple, asparagus they are stringy and can get stuck and plug you up. I look at the nutrition threads for new ideas, there is even one where they log daily what they eat that I have found some new ideas from.

Everyone is different, you will only know how you tolerate things by trying them one new thing at a time... and as you get more fills, that will even change. What you can eat in the morning may be different than what will go down easy in the evening. It's trial and error somewhat.

Stick to 6-8 glasses of Water in between meals, no drinking with meals. Target 1000-1200 calories and hit your Protein goal with calories before eating lots of carbs. I eat a lot of tuna, chicken, turkey, to get the Protein in, and supplement with cottage cheese, yogurt, veggies and salad or hot veggies!!!

I also use "DailyPlate.com" to journal food, its free and lots of info!!

Good luck!!!

That seems a bit concerning, when you say go to the bathroom I am assuming that you mean that everything is running thru you? That should be from the band. I too think you should see the doctor.

Take Care!

I wanted to add something else... it may be the artificial sweeteners in drinks like crystal light. I was getting sick from those and cut them out of my diet. Check and see how much you are drinking!

I do use alot of artificial drinks. So do you think that is what is making me sick.I know this is gross but it is like mucus that i have that gets in my throat .So i have to get up from the dinner table and go like make it come up.I hate that.I hate public bathrooms anyway and i can not make myself bend over in the toilet and get it up.SO i just have to walk around in the bathroom until i feel some relief. I called and talked to my doctor assistant and she said if i am under any stress this can make my band tighter.Oh by the way i live under stress every single day.So now they have prescribed zanax for me to take.NONO I hate drugs. So does anyone else have this promblem?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
