I keep hearing about people talking about their port site....some people complain that their port gets in the way of their clothes or that it portrudes out in an obvious way once you lose a significant amount of weight. Where exactly is it? Is it at the site of one of the scars or is it located at the point about 5 finger breadths above the belly button where theres a hard area about the size of half an outstretched palm?

Mine is about 1/2 inch directly below my biggest incision (below my right breast). Each surgeon places theirs in a different spot though.

I have no idea where mine is. I think it might be mid way between my chest and stomach but not sure. I will ask the doctor when I go for my post op appointment next week. Where ever it is it does not stick out. I guess that's good.

Mine is directly above my largest incision. To the left, about 4 fingers width below my ribs. So basically the left middle of my abdomen. I can feel mine if I push on the area slightly. I'm thinking the nice thing about this site is that it won't interfere with clothing and it won't been seen or felt. I'll know more as I lose weight. Too early to tell at this point, I'm barely 2 weeks out!

mine is in the centre of my chest between my boobs, i can feel it there, and it feels kinda weird, but hopefully when i lose all my weight i will only have the problem of that protruding out, instead of all my rolls

my port is right above the largest incision. i can feel my port just by running my hand over my stomach. i'm worried because if i can feel it now without any problems, what is going to happen when i lose the next 40 pounds? i'm worried it will be visible but my surgeon reassured me that it will not protrude. (i'm not sure i believe him).

the way i see it, my scars froms surgery and even if the port is visible, i'm going to treat them as my "war wounds". i've had to fight to get this surgery and it's been a struggle losing the weight... i kind of like that there will be reminders of how difficult this journey is remind me that i was strong enough to follow my dream.

does that sound cheesy?

nope - doesn't sound cheesy, i feel the same way.

my port does stick out & is noticeable (if i point it out - some don't see it right away). mine is located about 4 inches below the left breast & i'll take it popping out 10 times over being 75lbs overweight. i've nicknamed mine "trudy" (for protruding...LOL) - i had a 2pcs bathing suit on all summer, and even tho it's somewhat odd to feel it & somewhat see it - it really is of no bother.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
