I got my band yesterday too but am not doing as well as Kerri.

I hurt pretty darn bad. The gas pain is rough and is a stabbing sort of pain in my shoulder...this I expected. What i wasn't prepared for was how much my whole abdoman was going to hurt. I feel like I have been punched in the stomach a few hundred times. This feeling wasn't helped any by all of the vomiting and heaving I did after sugury. So I am taking meds, sipping Water and broth and trying to move around. I am nowhere near doing the block though. hats off to Kerri on that one. I am just circling the downstairs of my house. Well, my latest circle put me over here by the computer so I thought I would drop a quick line. Now I am going back to the couch with my heating pad and water.

Good girl Nita, take it easy! But check back in so you can get all your warm fuzzy good wishes!

Your punched in the stomach feeling is normal, but probably worse due to post-op vomiting. It happens. Be careful with your pain meds. If you can stick to liquid tylenol (or if your meds are liquid) you will do better.

Sip, sip, sip, walk, rest, heating pad. It will be behind you in no time-a little bit every day-don't worry.

Congratulations!! You got your BAND!!!

I'm feeling like you Nita, I stomach was pretty upset yesterday but thank god the nurses gave me a shot before I left to help with it. I feel like making it to my computer at this point was a huge step... Hope your feeling better soon too!

Sorry to hear you're feeling poopy. Your body has been through so much. Allow anyone and everyone to pamper you. Heck, send them out for a 2nd heating pad if you want to. My heating pad was my best friend, but it didn't stay hot enough. I say get two. I'm also a big fan of pain meds. Lots of people refuse to take them, which cracks me up. I mean, if you're morbidly obese to the point of needing weight loss surgery, then you've eaten more than a fair share of crap that's bad for you, right? So take the meds and relax. My Mexican pain meds were melted in Water. Other ones I had to crush. I never even had any pain because I stayed on them for a few days even if I didn't feel the need. They made the gas & bloating discomfort easier to deal with. And they made me all floaty. I like floaty.

Sending healing vibes to both of you. How cute that you're recovering together here!

Sorry, your post pain has been so painful for you. I was banded on 6-07-05 by Dr. Malley in Lenexa,Ks. As a nurse I made myself turn and move with the assistence of pain meds and even walked the first night twice. I have made my self move, move, and move some more to help with the post op gas pains. I also used my pain meds and now occaisionly use some Tylenol. Just rember you need to move to feel better. Good luck!

Hi Nita,

Don't worry about comparing your healing to someone else. It was 2 weeks before I went back to work and it took a good 10 days for my gas pain to disappear.

We all react and heal at our own rate. Sounds to me like you are doing all the right things to look after yourself.

I just had mine on Monday (6/13) and I am feeling your pain. (I told my mom today I think the Dr "OD"ed me on the gas.) haha. I to got sick the night after surgery. I have walked as much as possible and today is my best day. Hang in there....it will all be worth...at least that is what I keep telling myself.

Take it easy when you can but walking will help the gas pain more than anything else. Sip, sip your Water to stay hydrated. Hope you feel better really soon;)

Congratulations on being banded Nita!!! It's rough at first but it will get better before you know it. Heck, at least you are home and walking...I was still in the hospital and could barely move the next day. It sounds like you are well on the road to to a speedy recovery. Take care of yourself, relax, walk, and use those heating pads.

Hello All-

I'm still feeling okay- I definatly have gas pains and sugery site pain- I've been taking my liquid tylenol as needed. I was able to sleep a little more last night- heating pad on shoulder cold pack on tummy- helps alot- I had a hard time getting in my 64oz of Fluid yeterday! I get it today for sure- Boy- there are some STRANGE sounds coming from my belly! I know it sounds crazy but I can't wait for purreed foods un two weeks! I've been drinking so much Water and broth- I'm over it- I want cottage cheese, yogurt....some substance.

I'm worried about going back to work on Mon- I don't think I'll feel 100% but I'll be careful. Good luck to all you new bandsters- be gentle on yourself and Viva la Pain Meds!!!!!

well three days out and I can say that it is getting better each day. I am still hurting pretty bad. My whole abdoman is still very very soar, like a thousand sit-ups (not that I have ever done a thousand sit-ups to know what it feels like...LOL) the inscisions are soar and itchy and my port burns. I am also still very swollen and distended. and the gas pains (while not as constant as they were) are still painful. I am walking around (alot) and constantly sipping Water (when I'm not peeing from drinking all the Water, LOL)

While my stomach is making all sorts of strange rumblings and noises, I do not feel hungry at all. So that helps with the liquid thing. And surprisingly, I have hardly any bruising. The bruises from the IV are much worse than the ones on my belly. One of my inscisions has bled a little but not bad so over-all I think I am healing pretty well.

I am very excited about starting this new phase of my life!!!!!

Nita

Hey Keri, Did your doc tell you to drink 64 oz. of Water already? Most of us kind of work up to it. Nita, I'm so glad you're feeling better. I had the gas/shoulder pain for a while, but it was manageable, was able to work & all.

Hi-

I'm on clear liquids for one week and starting on week 2 can add full liquids- week 3 is purreed foods but still liquidy- applesauce, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. I was told to get as many fluids as possible- need 64 oz per day after surgery- am constantly sipping- but I am feeling good- hungry but good-

I five days post op and going to work today-

Was anyone else feeling HUNGRY on weeks 1 & 2?

I don't have any saline in my band- My dr. does a fill on weeks 4-6- so I wonder how everyone did on those weeks w/o a fill and felt hunger for actually food- not broth!!!! It is probably "head hunger"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
