British Dr. Guy on House is a A**

Recommended Posts

okay so I need to vent alittle I was/am watching house and there is this 10 year old girl on there that is obese and the british guy is saying all the normal "reasons" for obesity that obese people just shovel food in their mouths, don't try to exercise, basically that obese people want to be fat and thats why they are.... Seriously it's so irritating I know that most of us have heard these things "slip" from people we've been around (usually shortly followed by the "oh not you") but still its so sterotypical when are people going to learn STEROTYPES are that and just that sterotypes they aren't real and don't apply to every situation. I suppose this irritates me even more because i've heard from a few people lately that I didn't need to have the surgery because I could just watch what I eat and exercise more.... yes because that has worked out so well for me in the past I need a tool to make those things work and without it those things just don't work...okay rant over

He's an Aussie, not British (unless you are talking about House himself)

But I am not touching the rest with a ten foot pole.

I should have picked up on that it is a pretty significant difference in accents, oh well I watched the rest of the show and it ended pretty well turns out the girl had cushings but reguardless, maybe they were trying to show how some people can be ignorant to why people are over weight....oh well I'm over it now *that was quick*

Maybe you aren't a regular watcher of House? The basic premise of nearly every episode is that his preconceived notions and judgemental behaviors are what limit his initial treatments. Nearly every episode has the theme of: Patient is presented, House judges patient unworthy of his genius, patient cannot be diagnosed or properly treated by the team, his Judgements prove to be wrong, House is a medical genius and solves the mystery, but he is still also a lonely jerk addicted to pain killers.

I didn't see this particular episode, but I'd imagine that there was some of this general theme in there.

The character House, is supposed to be a brilliant ass of a doctor. That is the point of the show. He pre-judges everyone. Sometimes he is right and sometimes he is wrong. In this case if I am not mistaken he was proved Wrong! I am sure Hugh Laurie so nothing like his character. Unfortunately you are right there are many real people who think this way.

I guess I really never watched the show before I just kinda ended up on that channel. It was actually another Dr it's wasn't house himself it was the blonde haired guy dr. the other dr's were trying to tell him that it could be something else (besides the little girl just being lazy as he said) but he just kept refering to her weight as her fault it was actually really sad because I'm sure there are Dr.'s out there that do act like that towards obese children. The one dr said something to the effect of making the little girl feel horrible about herself wasn't going to help the situation. to which the blonde guy dr said that it would if it would get her off the couch. I don't know why it got on my nerves it just did. But I understand more about the show now so it makes sense that they would put that kind of issue on there to make it more interesting. I actually liked Dr. House he's a smart ass but the other dr was just written to be a ass I think.

I think i'm gonna watch it more often simply cause I like the House guy not so much the other one....

Dr Chase (from Australia) in that particular episode was an extreme ass, which isn't the norm for him. The show really is well written but I think for that one in particular they were trying to show the various reasons why people are overweight: over eat, no exercise, medical reasons, etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
