Wait a whole month or call them now?

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill Thursday (surgery was 7/29). I had 2 cc in the band to start with, and my doctor added 2.5 cc, so now I have a total of 4.5 cc. I am feeling no restriction. My next appointment is in a month. Should I wait, or call them and ask if I can come in now for another fill? Thoughts?

I've heard that some docs tell their patients it can take up to 2 weeks or so to "feel" a fill.

I know "aggressive" fills can aggravate esophageal problems like spasming etc (early bandsters had that WAY more than we do..and aggressive fills are the culprit)

So knowing that if it were me (and I'm not a doc and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn express even) I would probably give it 3 weeks then try again,

It was a good 2 weeks after my first fill before I felt any restriction. I noticed it first when I couldn't finish a Subway 6" ham 'n cheese sandwich. It was like really cool. That's the first time I couldn't finish one. Fortunately they have those "Mini" subs that are 4". Now I'm still struggling with knowing when to stop eating. I've heard all the advise about stopping as soon as you feel a little full but I'm still adjusting to the feelings. I think I usually eat a little too much, wanting to take just a couple more bites.

Just be patient. The restriction will come and you'll start understanding more what it is all about. I'm still new at this too. You're not far behind me.

God Bless!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
