Well now it is going to be removed.

Recommended Posts

I have been having sharp pains in the sternum area for about a year and a half now. I finally had repositioning 8 weeks ago. The pain came back. So now I am having it removed on Monday.

The doctor and I have agreed that either my IBS or my Fibromyalgia are what is causing this.

I am very sad to loose my band, but I cannot continue with the severe pain that I get.

I just have to be strong and use my head to keep on track to loose the last 40 lbs. I lost 70 total with the band.:lovechoc:

I'm so sorry to hear about your problems with the band. But, on the bright side you've already lost a considerable amount of weight, and hopefully learned some new eating habits. Good luck to you, and God bless! I leave you with this: I can do all things through Christ which strengheneth me. Philippians 4:13

So sorry! I would cry for days if they took my band and I've only had it about 8 days.

I am very sorry you are going through this. Is there a chance that the pain may not be resolved by removing the band or is the doctor sure it is caused by being banded?

I really feel bad for you. I haven't been banded that long but I already appreciate it so much. I would strongly suggest that you join a weight loss group immediately such as Weight Watchers or Overeaters Anonymous. You'll need their support (I wouldn't tell them your banding story because there is a strong bias especially at WW). Your battle is not over, you just need a new strategy. The sooner you get back into it the sooner you can continue. You've learned some incredible skills in losing as much as you have.

Also, guard youself against any feelings of "I deserve" whatever. It would be easy to feel sorry for yourself because your body has rejected the band, but don't give into that feeling. You have some difficult times ahead of you (and a surgery to recover from). Plan now how you are going to deal with it. You can do it. You are not alone in this battle.

God Bless You!

Thanks to everyone for your support. To HeatherO: The pain started after banding, after GI's, ultrasounds, CT's, going back in and looking, the only explanation had to be my IBS or Fibromyalgia causing it somehow. I am going to do my best, keep the eating habits I had with the band, I have gotten so used to eating low fat, etc... that everything else tastes bad.

Again, thanks for the support and well wishes, and good luck to all who have been banded and good journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
