Anyone have regret within the 1st 2 weeks?

Recommended Posts

:lovechoc: I am 4 days post op and although I had my mind made up to do it, I have some regret due to the discomfort and pain I still feel. Just wondered if there were others who had regrets within the 1st 2 weeks post op but at some point stopped regretting and is now happy with their decision and what was the turning point? I am in no way planning to turn back, but gosh I'm so uncomfortable around my incisions and internally uncomfortable and just want to know from others experience, when does the discomfort go away and you feel NORMAL again? On a positive, I am losing weight.

Don't worry dear!! The discomfort and pain are making you wonder if it is worth it, but it will be!!! I have had some of those moments, but they pass as you remind yourself that a little discomfort and pain now, to live comfortable and pain free later is going to be SO worth it!! I have only lost 16lbs and am already feeling MUCH better. The surgery pain and discomfort will go away withing the next week or so, just hold on a little longer! Lots of bandsters have been where you are now, so you are not alone. Chin up and keep imagining how good you will feel in a year!!:lovechoc:

I know how you feel - I had surgery on Wednesday, and am not having much fun at this point. But I know that this too shall pass! Hang in there.

It's interesting reading about others who have had the same regrets and how they made it through. Thanks for the encouragement!

I had regrets/doubts my first week or so. I think I had "post op blues" or something. I thought "oh my gosh...what have I done to my body?!" I would cry for no reason at the drop of a hat. I was very emotional the first few weeks. I felt much more confident of my decision once the pain and soreness diminished. I am almost 2 months post op and doing well. The only regret now is that I didn't have the surgery done sooner.

Oh yes, I had major regret the first week out. I was even going to the extent of emailing friends and family telling them I wish I had never went through with it....The pain was just miserable for me.

Then, at about the end of week 2, my mind became much clearer and my pain was going away.

Now I loooooooooove my band and wouldn't change a thing!!!

It gets better, I promise!

On the fourth day, I was crying and wondering what I had done to myself. The next morning, I woke up and everything was better. This shall pass and you will be excited about the new journey you have started.

Thanks for the encouragement you all. I was starting to wonder if this was normal or not. I hadn't said anything to my husband cause he would be like, oh boy not after I've paid $13000. I had to get this out so I could see that I'm not the only one having second thoughts. It's not like I can go have it taken out now anyway, so what am I thinking about. I feel like I'm going throught post partum depression. Thanks God it's not that though!!!

You are TOTALLY normal. Everyone has their "What was I thinking" moments. I know I did (I was self pay, too). But once the pain starts to subside, you really will feel a lot better. I am 3 months out and don't regret a thing about doing it, in fact, I'm kicking myself for not doing it a year earlier!!! Once you start getting in smaller clothes and feeling more energy, your brain will start to go into happy mode! Congrats!!!!

Yeah, the mood swing SUCK!! My poor DH put up with a LOT, and helped me even though I would snap his head off for the littlest things. They will get better too. I still cry for no reason sometimes, but not near as much.

Hi! I was banded on May 6th, 2008. I was soooo excited to get banded. When I came out of surgury I was so uncomfortable. When I came home I was totally second guessing myself. I was so depressed and questioning why I did this to myself. I was crying all day long. All I kept saying was if I only did this the "Right" way. If I could go back in time I would buckle down and totally change my way of eating.

Well, as a few more days pass those feelings started to go away. As I felt better and stronger so did my depression. Along with getting all the percocets out of my system.

So to fast forward exactly 4 months later, I am down almost 40 lbs. I have NEVER felt better in my life. I go to the gym at least 4-5 times a week and I eat very healthy. I will be going for my 3rd fill on Monday and am hoping to get another supercharge!

I promise you will feel better very soon. It took me about 10 days till I was myself again. As a fellow bandster once told me: "KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE"

I was in quite a bit of pain after the surgery - I had read how great people felt after the surgery, this was not my experience. I thought something might be wrong because the pain was more than I expected, on a scale of 1-10 I would say a 7 and constant !! I refused the additional pain killers when I woke up because I didnt want to feel any worse than I did waking up from the surgery. After some time I did take the pain killers they offered me in the hospital- that helped a lot ! The pain killers made me sick even with all the anti-nauseant I was taking so again I was feeling pretty awful - I started to think that I made a huge mistake, I wondered why I had done this to myself ?!?! And thought I will never feel "normal" again. This has passed .. I am less than one month post-op and feel like my normal self again, except better. I have not had a fill yet, but already love my band. I feel like my band and I got off to a rough start but are friends now

Hopefully you will feel better about your band soon !

Don't worry; everyone calls the first two weeks "lap band hell", so you are normal. Once you start seeing that scale move, and get to eat real food, you'll feel better. I'm one month post-op, and I'm SO glad I did it!!!! I've lost 20 pounds since surgery and feel so much more comfortable and I have NO regrets!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
