Cleared for surgery!!!!

Recommended Posts

Yay I was cleared for surgery and its on Sept 18th!!! I've started my pre-op diet, but I have a question. My pre-op diet consists of only 4 and a half cans of slim fast a day (thats what the doctor told me). Thats only 800 calories!!! I'm having a really hard time not being hungry and craving other foods. Am I allowed to eat anything else, this is rough? Anybody have any tips? When he told me about the pre-op diet and what was required I responded with "If I could just have 4 cans of slim fast a day for 2 weeks, do you think I would be getting this surgery in the first place?" He just chuckled. Good luck to all the pre-op dieters out there!

My surgery is Sept 11 and I have been on the pre-op for 10 days

Mine consists of 3 - sugar-free carnation instant Breakfast in 1% milk, plus 2 lean-cuisines each 300 calories or less and at least 17 grams of Protein. Was really hard the first 3 days now I have to force myself to eat the whole meal. I have 16 oz carnation breakfast for breakfast and one I heat up the milk then add the carnation breakfast drink powder and have a hot cocoa before bed, taste pretty good.

Good new I have lost 15 lbs! :lovechoc:

Do what your doc says! I got 2-3 cans of eas carb controal AdvantEDGE shakes and 3 oz lean fish or turkey or chicken and 1 cup green veggies each day. That's it. came to 600-700 cal. It was to shrink my fatty liver. I was starved and did my "own" diet. I lost 15 pounds BUT...come my 8/11 surgery day, my surgeon found he couldn't place the band because my liver was too large! It is pretty vile to come to in recovery and hear you don't have the band. SO I did HIS diet and when i got hungry I just remembered how awful that felt. On 8/29, 32 pounds down, he was successful.

Let me be a horrible warning...tough it out but do what your doc requires! You'll be glad you did!

I love my band now...and am down 41.4 pounds since 7/25....I'm a pretty happy camper. I'm still on liquids and still hungry but it will pass and I feel so good, I handle it better now.

My surgery is Monday. I am on day 13 of 14, my pre-op diet has been 3 Protein Shakes a day THAT'S IT. I am hungry a little between, but not giving myself any options. I want to be able to say I did it. I have read a lot on this site about other peoples pre-op diets and they sound all different to me. JUST STICK WITH IT- YOU CAN DO IT!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
