5 days to go

Recommended Posts

Have lost 15 lbs so far on the pre-op diet but man I have been short tempered and curt with people, I hear it come out and usually apologize afterward (unless I really meant it... :lovechoc:). I researched and found that people who are nervous or scared will sometimes do that. I really hope that is all that it is. Funny thing though, I haven't been rude to my husband you would think that the one closest to me would get it the worst. Thank God that is not the case.

Has anyone else experienced this and did it go away after surgery?

Hi There-

Great Job on the 15 pounds!!! I totally understand where you are coming from. I have been on this pre-op diet for almost 11 days and I have only lost 8 pounds (very disappointing since I have followed it to the T) and I also am on Hormone Replacement Therapy so I had to stop my medication cold turkey and I am not someone you want to be around right now. I don't know if it is the HRT or the diet. I am so cranky and short tempered and I get frustrated easily. I thought I hope that it is not like this forever because who likes to feel this way. I am having surgery monday the 8th. I just wanted to let you know that I feel for you... Keep up the good work... What is your pre-op diet like?

Mine consists of 3 - sugar-free carnation instant Breakfast in 1% milk, plus 2 lean-cuisines each 300 calories or less and at least 17 grams of Protein. Was really hard the first 3 days now I have to force myself to eat the whole meal. I have 16 oz carnation Breakfast for breakfast and one I heat up the milk then add the carnation breakfast drink powder and have a hot cocoa before bed, taste pretty good.

How about yours?

I was on a preop diet for 5 weeks. I'm usually pretty outspoken and didn't notice being more cranky, but I was "fuzzy" sometimes...forgetting stuff I usually know etc.

It is in Mazlow's order (things we need to live....like air first, then food and Water, then shelter etc) Of course if you are hungry you are going to be short tempered. Your body is frustrated!

I have been short lately too...especially the first few days (and I had PMS!!). I've also noticed that my short term memory is all out of whack...which is weird for me.

I sure hope it all gets back to normal after surgery this week!

I also have 5 more days. today is the worst day so far. I'm hateful as a snake and I know it! Tonight is my family's pizza night. Think I'll lock myself in the bedroom. This has been a good exercise in self control.

I just want to say KUDOS! to those of you who have stuck to a severe preop diet while your family eats as usual around you. Mine was hard as heck and my wonderful DH ate what I could eat. He had pizza once I was a few days post op and feeling good about everything. If he had eaten in front of me I'd probably be a headline right now...postal wouldn't even describe it! So good for you all! You're darned impressive!

WOH I like the sound of that lean cuisine one.

I had two weeks of a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch and a shake for dinner. Thats it, 3 shakes a day and nothing else.

Then once you have your band your on fluids only, so I haven't eaten anything solid for 4 weeks now. I cannot wait till tuesday when I can start eating mushie food.

Seriously though, time goes fast and you'll be eating again in no time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
