Hello fellow banders has anyone gone through this procedure and found a small hernia??? Dr is not sure if he wants to fix it.. he feels it maybe ok? Is this something that can prolong my surgery?

Yes, they also found a medium sized hernia when my endoscopy was done. The doctor closed it with a stitch during the surgery. He said that it was only a minor procedure. ....it wasn't a big deal at all.

My doc said I had a small to medium sized hernia and that he would fix it when doing the surgery. When he got in there he found it was much larger than he thought and I was in surgery a while longer. I think three stitches. In any case, its a good thing to get taken care of while they are in there. If the hernia causes reflux, they rarely do surgery and treat with meds. I have not gone off my reflux med yet, but am looking forward to trying.

Hi I had the endo thing last

Thrs. and my doc found what he called a "huge" hernia. He said he will repair it during the surgery. And yes, I have awful reflux. Never knew it was from a hernia.

I had the same thing and they found a small hernia. Before the procedure, he said if I had a hernia it would need to be fixed first. Since they found it and saw how small it was, they haven't said anything about fixing it. I am already taking nexium for reflux and I'm hoping to get off this after my banding. Anyone else able to stop reflux meds after surgery?

Yes, I had horrible acid reflux prior to surgery. They fixed the hernia during surgery and now I am completely off of the Nexium.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
