I am not going to lie and say everything has been roses. I do have extreme bouts with the mucus but I do not regret the decision at all. I have more energy that I could ever imagine, I recently had an interview and put on the suit I have not worn since my wedding and it fit better now than it did back then. I get compliements almost everyday.

I wish I could do something about the mucus, i have tried the warm drinks, apple juice, pineapple juice nothing seems to help. It was still worth it and continues to be.

This is the first I have heard about mucus being a problem. I am preparing for the surgery (which will be self-pay, since my insurance does not cover it) and I would liked to know about this.

By the way, your transformation is amazing!

well, if I have not eaten in a while there is some sort of clear mucus that developes. When I eat things like crab and shrimp it really seems to be an issue. I have heard if you drink lots of apple juice, pineapple juice or warm drinks it helps break down, either i do not drink enough or it doesn't work for me. it really didn't start really effecting me til after the 2nd fill. i talk to others that do not have an issue at all.

Alsobrook71,

Thanks for the very helpful information and the encouragement. I have reviewed your journey on your blog and am inspired. So, thanks for that.

I do have another question about the mucus, and I apologize for being so graphic. Is this a drip, a cough or something else?

I have the exact same mucous problem that you are describing. I have had my band since may of 07 and started having it about 5 mnths post opp. If i go without eating for prolonged periods of time then it will build up to where it is almost immposible to eat for awhile without having a productive burp. I still love my lapband and would not change getting it. Anyway if you do come across somthing that works for you on helping with the mucous be sure to let me know.

Thanks!

Hi everyone I have had my band for 3 1/2 years, I think your thick saliva could also be called slimming, I get that if I take too big of a bite and don't chew it well enough, it gets stuck, slime, slime, slime, then I get the hickups until the bite of food goes down, its a terrible feeling so I have been working very hard not to let this happen. Hope this helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
