Watcher.... In answer to your question, anything carbonated is difficult for bandsters. The bubbles and gases in carbonated liquids expand in your tiny little pouch and it can stretch it, and hurt. It's very uncomfortable. It's a big no no for us. Beer has even more carbonation than a soda so it's REALLY bad. I had to have gallbladder surgery a month ago and they took all the fill out of my band. The first thing I ate when it was emptied was a few sips of beer. I do miss it.

Probably when I have reached my goal. I almost never get head hunger and I know that it is because I cut the bad carbs out of my diet. I am insulin resistant so just a little will get my insulin jumpin' which will only cause me to want more. I just feel safer keeping it out of my system for now.

Jodi, have you tried the whole wheat Pasta? I am hypoglycemic and I do very well with it. It has 17g of protien per serving! I only buy Barilla though and cook it 15 mins, not the 11 that the package suggests. To me, that makes it taste exactly like the other stuff.

At Olive Garden, I get the Parm Crusted Talapia. YUM It does come with an angel hair Pasta which is yummy, but if you wanted, you could request whole wheat pasta, they do have it there, but only linguini (sorry about my spelling).

For me, pizza was the food I really thought I'd miss. I don't even think about it anymore. Sometimes when I see a commercial, I think, hmm, I never crave pizza anymore. LOL I do miss bread though, I really do, but only when I'm at a restaraunt that puts that hot, soft, aromatic delight right under my nose. LOL

Diet Dr. Pepper - at first. I used to drink a case every two days - literally. I missed it, but now I guess I've adjusted. I no longer crave it.

pizza - I do miss pizza. I can eat the toppings off slowly, but it's definately worth the sacrifice. Think of the calories I'm saving - Oh and I always liked the Pan - Thick Crust. I've heard some can tolerate thin crust - I just haven't tried it yet.

O.O NO beer? I didn't realize that. I knew we had to do alcohol in extreme moderation but no beer at all that will be tough.

Well if you have the mentality of not cutting out beer, the problem you will find when you're using a band to restrict your input of food (calories.. or carbs for an easy example)..

Beer if laden with lots of these. Let's say you need to eat 1,500 calories to lose weight.. 1 12oz (can) of beer is 153 calories & 12 carbs. How many beers do you have in one sitting? I'm not a beer drinker, so I'm going to guess based off of the people I know who drink it.. 2-4.. 306 to 612 calories.

So using 306 calories for 2 beers, you have 1,194 calories left for the day.

Divide between 3 meals.. 398 calories per meal left.

Now you're left designing 3 meals to stay within that criteria.

It can be done, but that's also assuming you only had 2 beers and that you can control what you're eating (and before a good fill, this is easier said than done).

1 slice of thin crust is 110 calories for the dough, 10 calories for the sauce, 60 calories for the cheese, and toppings vary depending on them.. meats are 30-80. ONE slice.

The more you know!

For me, I just try to avoid empty calories in liquids.

I sound anal about calories, and I'm not (anymore). I used that as my counter when I started out, so I could have a focus on something, so I think it's helpful to think about when you're starting out. Don't start trying to justify why you can drink beer & pizza--realize why you SHOULDN'T drink beer and eat pizza.

yea and there is another thingthat is different about me ... i never ...ever ... eva eva eva eva... counted calories... and i never will... kudos to those of you who do... but thats... yea to me that would be too much..

the other thing is having a beer going to get you into trouble.. i have Iron will power. i have always been able to quit addictions such as cigs cold turkey and never looked back... if food is an addiction to you then it might be good to just forever stop that addiction. beer goes along with many foods well... so if a beer is going to cause you to want pizza and moreover more that one slice of pizza then considerable thought must be given.

and remember there's always wine. and its stronger anyway ... kinda taste better too!!  :)

Reading your posts, you don't seem like you have your brain in the game with the band.. you really need to reflect on getting together with it!

Your posts all say what you never do, that you eat well and do right- and being 400lbs does not reflect that(in one thread)..and the next thread you try to justify why you can have pizza & beer.. while you're still in the liquid phase.

Your lack of enthusiasm to follow the rules is disheartening, I just think if you want to succeed with the band you need to get a reign on your personal responsibility in the weightloss.

Ill succeed with my band because it was never about loosing the weight for me ... I got the band as a tool to assist me in keeping the weight off. I have been a jock all my life and it is only after i focused more on my studies than my athleticism that i began to gain the weight that helped me to 400+. I have always had a very good grasp oh how my body works. i also know how and why i blew up like i did. To respond to one of your statements more specifically knew what i got myself into... i researched this process for ... about a year and still seek council of people here and other that i know who have the band ... so i am not saying that my philosophy is for every one...im just putting my thoughts info and experiences out there. mock me if you will ... but i got this pimpin!

No, I was not mocking you. I was hoping to do you justice as a fellow bander, and help you understand the attitude of beer & pizza is not going to help you be a successful bandster.

Instead of saying, yeah that's ok.. beer & pizza! I'm being honest and pointing out the flaw in your current line of thinking.

The band is a tool. You are the one who controls how that tool is going to work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
