What has been your biggest food sacrifices

Beer. I loved an ice cold beer on a hot summer day. There are some foods that just aren't good without a beer..... BBQ, fried catfish, Mexican food..... I don't mind giving up the soda, but the beer has been a hard one for me....

Since May 15th I have not had Pasta of any kind, regular bread (I do use whole wheat wraps sometimes), sugar or caffeine. Of these four items my biggest sacrafice would probably be the pasta, I love the stuff. It was hard at first but I have not been missing it so much lately (unless I see an Olive Garden Commercial that is :tongue2:)

now why did you give it up ... is it because you can take the carbonation... or the calories... or what was the reason ... because i started a nouther thread and not everyone gave up beer.

:cry_smile:Soda, I love bubbles! and I miss them very much! Even when I was pregnant with my daughter and had gestational diabetes, I would drink carbonated Water, talking rain, etc. I love, love, love the bubbles! But, my new body is worth it! I just really miss the bubbles!

Probably when I have reached my goal. I almost never get head hunger and I know that it is because I cut the bad carbs out of my diet. I am insulin resistant so just a little will get my insulin jumpin' which will only cause me to want more. I just feel safer keeping it out of my system for now.

aubrie:

don't fear, you don't have to give up all beer! (i'm assuming you gave it up b/c of the carbonation).

you can get beer on nitrogen (i.e. guiness) or hand-pulled beer (which has no carbonation).

Cokes.. Mt. Dew..

I was addicted to Mt.Dew.... A month pre-op I quit cold turkey, figuring if I can cut it out, I can do this.. and miraculously I did it. I've had cokes since banding, but it's not the same anymore.. it's uncomfortable from the carbonation, it makes me feel bloated and I only end up drinking a few small sips. Taste isn't quite the same either when you have to take tiny sips and swash it around a little bit.

I miss sodas!!!! When I hear someone open a soda, my ears perk up.

I want that cold refreshing sweet taste. I put a sip of root beer in my mouth one time and swished it around and then spit it out. I havent had one since December 07!!! Also eating a hamburger with out the bun is just not a hamburger. But bread does not agree with my band. But I'm 68 pounds lighter and that feels so good!!!!

Oh, I didn't realize that you were only a week and a half post-op. You really are doing great!

A month of full liquids? ! I feel for you--I really do. I would be angry too, I was a bear during my two weeks liquid.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
