Hello,

Just registered for the lapbandtalk today. I have already had my surgery in March of 2007. I went to Mexico because I could not afford self-pay in U.S.. I live in Pittsburgh and am going to Erie for only my 2nd fill since surgery. Previously I lived in Nashville TN where a fill cost me $500.00 so I could not afford it as often as I needed it, however I have still managed to lose 65lbs in that time. I still want to lose about 100 more lbs and am hopeful now that I know Dr. Ali is reasonable with the price of his fills. I hope to make some friends here and if you live in the Pittsburgh area I would love to make friends in the city also. So email if you like and I will definitely talk back. Lately I have been down about my lack of weightloss and am really looking for support from people who are in the same boat as me.

Hi Anthrochika,

I had my surgery in Mexico in April and I'm jumping up and down I'm so happy and I've only lost43 lbs. 65 lbs with less than proper fills is remarkable. You should be so proud. I live in Michigan so we are quite a ways away but we can always write if you like. I have had a couple of bad incidents this last month with sliming but I can tell you that they were mostly my own fault. Eating too fast and not chewing enough makes a big difference in that teeny tiny pouch. Sounds like you have found a good Dr. that you trust so follow his advice and you should be fine. In fact you are fine, you just need to believe it!

Blessings,

Sally

Sally Thanks for the words of encouragement  I did go to Erie today and had my 2nd fill and honestly Dr. Ali was AWESOME!!!! I would reccomment hime to anyone. The first fill I received I honestly believe the Dr. did not actually fill anything just injected saline into my body, because today Dr. Ali found my port in about 30seconds whereas the other Dr. dug around nowhere close to the port for about 5mins and then announced he had completed the fill CROOK!!! is what I say and 500.00 dollars later makes me a little mad. I would love to talk anytime you like. My work schedule is 11-8 so I will be able to answer in the morn or evening but not during the day. And 43lbs since April is wonderful, you also should be very proud for that.

How much would like or need to lose? I was 285 when I went to surgery and my personal goal weight is 125-135. Dr. Ali stated today that I was ambitious and well he was correct I am very driven and hope to make my goal by end of next yr if possible. Write anytime and thanks for writing me.

Heather

January,

You said you can not figure a lot out? I would be more than happy to try and help you with any questions. Have you already been banded or going to be banded? I have been banded for a little over a yr as you saw in my intro. Anyway please feel free to contact me on this thread anytime you want to talk about anything you want to discuss and like I said will try to assist if at all possible.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
