I am staying at my parents for a while and have the mattress on the floor. Will this be awful after surgery? I am worried about the getting up part. My surgery is on Sept 30th, should I hurry up and get a bed before then?

Yeah I would suggest you do...it is really hard to get up for the first 2 weeks or so after surgery. Good luck!!!

I slept in my bed from the first night but depending, it might be a little dicey the first few days post op getting up. I was very obese and getting up off the floor wasn't pretty anyway, though, so it depends a lot on you. Some bandsters prefer sleeping in a recliner the first few days. That might be an option for you.

I slept in a recliner for several days and then graduated to the couch. It was about a week before I slept in my bed. I suggest you have several sized pillows too. I liked to sleep on my side so I put a small pillow under my belly to ease the pulling on my incisions. I also put several pillows behind my back so I didn't roll over during the night...it hurt alot to roll over from lying on my back.

I think you should definitly rethink sleeping on a matress on the floor.

I will say the 1st morning post op I woke up sleeping on my stomach. Well, OW! LOL It took me a while to get up the gumption to get up!

But it wasn't that bad. Depends on how you do after surgery though; some are in a good bit of pain for several days, some like me don't have many issues at all. It's a roll of the dice unless you've had surgery before and know how fast you bounce back!

I am on day 3 and to be honest I have been spending more time moving around then in bed (other then when I am asleep or taking a nap). But You really should be in a good, supportive 'bed' for this. Your body will need all the adjustment/rest it can get and if you are straining to get up and about that could hinder your recovery. Your rib cage area will be really sore, so if there is a recliner in the house or if your parents aren't too elderly and will switch with you for a few days then great! Good luck! :tt2:

While I had no problem getting up from my bed after surgery I would imagine that getting up from the floor will be very difficult. Good luck with your surgery!

I wouldn't try it from a mattress on the floor. It is hard enough getting up when the bed is standard height. You don't want to hurt yourself or be in a lot of pain.

Thanks everyone for the advise. I mentioned this to my parents and they have and extra bed frame in the garage and will set it up for me to use. I might also consider the recliner. I have 25 days to figure it out...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
