Stomach hurts so bad!!

Recommended Posts

I got banded on Aug 28, and have generally felt bad since...but the last several days have been much worse. My Dr did not give me a fill at surgery, but I have such restriction, that I have lost 10 lbs in the last week. I start feeling nauseous and having to spit in the sink even when I haven't eaten anything for hours.

I went to my Dr yesterday, and he did a swallow test which was fine, but on the xray he could see that my stomach was full of air. He said the air was what was making me so uncomfortable and wrote me a rx for metoclopromide, but not to use it regulary.

I took it yesterday, and after several hours, I started having very painful, almost violent burps. After which, I did feel much better...however, I feel just as bad again tonight. What is causing me to keep getting the air to fill my stomach? Has anyone had this? Does it go away? I am so tired of feeling rotten...

Are you drinking with straws? Chewing gum? Eating things not on the "approved" list?

Hi, I got banded on 8/25 and I had the same thing happen to me. I just hoped they would go away and they finally did. I am now almost 2 weeks past and I feel so much better!!! It does go away. My dr. told me to go and get mylanta. I didn't because it all finally went away! Hang in there about after a week and a half it feels much better.

Good luck

You might want to try Gas-X too. It comes in strips that dissolve in your mouth very quickly...and it is simethecone which helps break up gas quickly and easily.

I am not using a straw, chewing gum, or eating things I shouldnt. I barely eat. I have tried the gas x strips, and they do not help. He said it was air, I guess it is different from gas. I stopped having my Protein Shake in the blender, because I thought that might be contributing, but it did not help at all today.:tt2:

i am the same, but i got banded yesterday lol. i feel so grosssssss and there is so much air that its hard to move, and sharp pains everywhere. i have the air in my lower stomach and try to burp it up, but it puts pressure under the band and hurts and i can only burp once in a while. i have the gas-x but only had 3 today. (strips). i am going to try to get some sleep.

good to know that this might be common. i've barely had anything, some bites of Jello and some broth, but tomorrow i have to start the shakes again. i haven't gotten enough Water. feel sick. bleh.

anyways, hope we feel better! <3

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
