I am thinking about having a Lap Band and found this to talk with others about it.

I am 100 lbs overweight and have tried unsuccessfully to loose the weight.

HELP!

Welcome! This is the place to really find out everything you could ever want to know (and maybe some you don't :smile2:) about the lap band.

Start browsing the posts and read read read!

I am getting banded later this month and am very excited.

Don't be afraid to ask questions when you have them. Remember, the only dumb question is one that is unasked.

Good luck! :tt2:

I say do all your homework and be ready for proper aftercare. Lapband is a tool not a miracle. I have already had surgery and can tell you from experience if you don't follow the aftercare properly you can still gain weight. I have only been able to afford one fill ($500)that was not as successful as I had hoped and to date have only lost 57lbs in a yr and 1/2. I had lost 65lbs but was in a car accident and have been unable to exercise and depression has me turning to food for comfort yet again. It's our bad habits and behavior that sabotage us. Just make sure you are ready for the committment, but I can tell you it is definitely worth it and if you get the chance to do it I say go for it!!! :tt2::):smile2:

Lapband can be an amazing tool, but it can also really make life unpleasant if you are not prepared to live by it's rules. I suggest you read as much as you can here, and make sure to read some of the posts that include titles like, frustrated, depressed, angry. You give up some things with lap band that some people have a hard time with. For example, you may never eat breads or pastas again. Some can, many can't. If that would be a dealbreaker for you, you should know that ahead of time.

You will have to pay not only for the surgery, but also preop meetings/tests, and special foods like Protein supplements and Vitamins. In fact, you will need to take at least a Multivitamin for the rest of your life. If changes like that are a problem - this might not be a good solution for you.

I do not want to preach at all. I can only suggest you learn all you can about the lap band lifestyle before you commit. A good doctor should be able to provide you with plenty of info to help make your decision, and these boards are a wonderful tool. You may want to check out YouTube too...I find that I take both inspiration and warning from those brave enough to share their lap band stories that way.

Good luck with your search for a new you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
