Banded July 25th, and rockin....

Recommended Posts

:crying:

I had a baby on June 3rd, banded on July 25th during maternity leave...I have lost 54 lbs since the baby was born. Some of it came off while breast feeding and the rest during the liquid and mushy phase...I go tomorrow for my first fill and see the dietician...I want to start normal foods.

I am still eating mushy foods and getting extremely tired of them....mashed potatoes, canned chicken salad, tuna salad, yogurts, etc....the sheet of paper I was given says solid foods after 8 weeks?????

I have had to eat normal foods at a couple different times because there was nothing else available where I was and it wasn't at a place that I could bring my own food...I had a very small portion of meatloaf, a hot dog w/ half the bun..1/2 a mushy hamburger....I chewed the heck out of it and took tiny bites...I did not have any problems at all so I hope it's OK...

When did everyone else start solid foods? What kind of foods did you have problems with and how much could you eat at a sitting after your first fill?

AND WHEN CAN I EAT SPICY FOODS???

If I am to stay on mushies, what are some good suggestions of different foods that I'm not thinking about?

THANKS!!!!

I was on mushies for 6 weeks and it got EXTREMLY OLD eating the same damn thing. I was so sick of canned tuna and chicken with LOTS of mayo - AND cream of wheat, which used to be my favorite Breakfast food until now! But the motivation was the weight coming off.

You are going through what I went through and I did the exact same thing as you when I went to Bbq's: chewed the solids until it got mushy in my mouth, but that was after 6 weeks. I did, infact, eat a hotdog and chips while I was in the mushy stage. I chewed the heck out of it and swallowed, but later was scared that I would mess up the band (regret maybe?); however, now that I have had two fills since my surgery, and the 2nd fill was an overfill (suffered 2 weeks unable to eat any solids and vomited alot, now totally unfilled), it was just a nice break/relief to eat all that stuff again - hotdogs and burgers, etc... BUT.... I have not gained any weight, nor lost anymore weight. I have been very careful in not eating that stuff alot during the last couple of weeks. I still have my Protein shakes (even bought unflavored Protein to put in yogurts and hot cereals) during the day, but maybe a hot dog here and there because of all the summer BBQ's that were going on around here!

(off the subjuct but just to share) I meet with my doctor next week to start all over with the fills. There is no set number of cc he goes by; fills are based on how much Water I drink and then he adjusts the band to release the Water, determining the cc amount. I was scared before to drink the water, only taking sips to avoid vomiting, but now I know what stuck feels like, and that water drinking won't cause that other than it "hanging in my chest", I am fully prepared to do it right next week and hopefully get the right fill/"sweet spot". But getting back to the subject, I would think you would be able to eat other foods besides the mushies after 6 weeks. That's what was given to me post-op.

I noticed Southern Miss responded to you. She and I communicated alot prior to our surgeries. I was a few weeks before she had hers and now she has lost 10 more pounds than me. I just can't believe it, yet, I am sooo proud of her! My lack of weightloss was due to my slight set back.

Anyway, just hang in there! 8 weeks seems like a long time.

So I went for my first fill...WEIRD!...I was flippin out because I already have a "bone" thing... I don't like people to touch my bones, like ankle bones, wrist bones, my neck...it's like being tickled...anyway...he was pushing with his fingers to find the port on my ribs... it took everything I had to sit still! He was having trouble finding it or something and told me to take a break...he then came back and got it done...it didn't hurt, just felt weird...NOW on to the puzzling part...when I went in for the 2 week post check, he said I was doing great and the weight I had lost was done on my own because there was nothing in the band yet...OK....I go get my fill today...he says he put 3 CC into the band and that I had already had 2 CC in from surgery so now I have 5 CC...I'M CONFUSED!:tongue2::cool2: I had to drink a small cup full of Water to make sure I could hold it down or he would of had to take some fill out...I did fine...I talked to the dietician for a bit, I am aloud to eat normal foods now but the normal rules..chew, chew, chew...small bites! Low fat, low sugar foods, whole wheat and test what I can tolerate! She was just as confused about my fills as I was and they looked at my chart with the nurse and she said something about having 5CC also and mentioned that they do put some in sometimes to help secure the band...???? I know what he said before and I'm wondering how well they keep records!...oh well..I'm doing well on my own, I know what I need to eat and do so it's all good... Thanks for all the help!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
