Givin' up the ice cream

Recommended Posts

It's so easy to eat in front of the TV, shoes. It's really hard to watch your fullness and what your putting in your mouth. For sure.

I stayed up waaaaaaaaaaaay too late to watch Obama's speech.

I woke up five hours later for work cursing myself.

I can't buy peanuts in the shell anymore. I will eat the whole bag. Some days when I had peanuts in the house, I didn't want to eat dinner, just peanuts.

I went out of town yesterday. I had to see a specialist that wants to run thousands of $$ of tests. I ended up eating cold stone for dinner. I am so bad.

Thinner - I hope things are alright with you. Peanuts in the shell - my first tries to minimize my nut intake was to buy them in the shell thinking it would slow down my consumption....it didn't. Hence the nut boycott!

How's everyone doing? Did you make it thru the weekend without the addictions kicking in big time? I've been doing pretty well. I've had ice cream only twice in the last three weeks and I think that's a very good rate. I still crave it and know it can take over very easily so I have to be very vigilant with it.

Tap - nuts still being kept at bay? How are you doing?

Ready - you've been doing pretty well, did you make it thru the weekend?

Denise - Was the Stone Cold delicious? Hopefully it hasn't made any more visits to you.

sms - how's things going in meatless land? Is the candy all gone now?

The nuts were not a problem this weekend - however everything else was! I had company for dinner Saturday and ate way too much (no sweets though) then yesterday the weather was crappy and I felt crappy and proceeded to make myself feel worse by grazing all day....if it was in a cupboard, in the fridge, or on a counter it was at least contemplated and most things were tasted. I mean REALLY what was I thinking?? I had 4 cups, FOUR cups, four cups of chilied chickpeas last night AFTER dinner.< /p>

I'm pathetic.

Back on track today....

Okay, the chickpeas sound wonderful and I'd love the recipe. But 4 cups? Wow! You were having a day weren't you? Oh well, it happens and we can move on. You are stronger than your cravings, dear Tap. You've proved that over and over again. I'm sure you don't feel that way today. All is good.

Hello my name is shonda I'm a sugar addict...now that I said am I cured?

Oh how I wish it were that simple!!!!

As I didn't have any dried chickpeas ready, I used 2 cans. Drain, rinse and let them dry for a bit. Put oven at 350. Put chickpeas in a small bowl, add 2 tbsp of olive oil, add some chili powder (to taste), I also add some chili flakes (I like spice), and some garlic cloves - whole peeled. Throw in a jellyroll pan and bake in oven. At 15 minutes stir them, then put in for another 15 min. Remove from oven. EAT. They should be more firm (like a soft nut). I also eat the cloves of garlic (soft and sweet by then)...tends to keep people away the next day!!!

That sounds heavenly and super healthy too. I'm gonna have to try it soon.

I am doing okay. I guess it's time for a fill again.

If it is possible to read 'tone', you sound sorta down RSG. Hope I am mis-reading.

No I am a little down, but I'm trying not to dwell on it. I'm really honestly fighting with myself. I know that if I eat right, with out drinking, eating good hard meat, I can only finish 3/4 of a chicken strip. But if I eat mash potatoes I can eat two bowls.

If I take a bite of a biscuit I will be too full, if I eat a biscuit with a glass of milk, I can eat the whole thing.

I'm doing...okay...but I need to do better. I realize what I'm doing and I've gotten so much better, but I still have a long way to go.

Honestly, I had icecream all weekend. It's better than my worst times. When I would have two or three bowls, just one bowl, but I was doing so good. I got really stressed out and bought a 1/2 gallon of icecream and while I do just fine with it out of the house, I'm not so good with it in the house. Now that I've admitted that I can maybe throw it away when I get home. I also had bacon. In fact, it was a weekend of pain for my poor diet. That's why you guys didn't see me this weekend.

I feel just so ashamed, but that is why I started this thread, because I tend to hide things. Since I was little. I don't have to do that anymore, but old habits die hard, and anything that I hide I do end up eating a lot more than I would normally.

So there it is. I'm still learning. I'm still trying. I need to do better. I really don't think I need a fill. I mean sometimes I can eat a whole sandwich, and maybe even some snap peas with it, (with out drinking) but sometimes I can only have one bite of a chicken strip and be full.

What do you guys think. As long as I can stop the drinking then I think it will be better. It just was a bad week.

I would not get another fill. Being too tight is dangerous. I was too tight and didn't even know it. I could eat anything I wanted. I didn't have trouble with any foods. I started throwing up in my sleep.

When I had the test, the barium just sat in my esophagus for 15 min. My food must have stayed in there for hours. I never felt stuck though. I could have blown out my esophagus. I had to have 1cc removed.

If you can get full on a chicken strip, you sound just right. Don't beat yourself up for eating wrong sometimes. That's why we all got banded. We have obsessive food problems.

When I am stressed, I run to Baskin and Robbins or the Dairy Queen. I would not dare buy a half gallon of ice cream. I would eat the whole thing. I have no doubt about that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
