I would like to re-introduce myself!

Recommended Posts

I have visited these boards previously, and am back again. I just recently had a milestone birthday of 60 years old on Aug. 30th. I have been on another lap band website, but there has been way to much drama over there for me, and not enough of the information I need now.

I had my lap band surgery on July 1st, lost 22 lbs from the pre and post-op liquid diets. When I started on my mushie phase and solid food phase, my weight loss stopped and I started to gain a little at a time. I have gained about 6 lbs since then, and am desperately needing my first fill. But, because of complications with the healing process, my port incision still hasn't closed completely up yet. I had to postpone 2 appts with my surgeon for my first fill because of the open incision. I have another scheduled for Sept 8, and just put in a call to my surgeon's office whether I need to reschedule again or just come in. My husband and I have to travel over 190 plus miles (4 hrs) just one way to get to my surgeon, plus the same to get back home. The nurse just called me back and my surgeon has prescribed levaquin for one week to help get rid of any infection that MIGHT be around my port incision to prevent any complications with my port. But I am to keep my Sept 8th appt with him because he wants to see the incision for himself, then decide from there if I get a fill or not. You wouldn't believe all the "brick walls" I had to get through to get to this point. I just know that it will all be worth it, though.

I'm glad to be back here again! :crying:

Susie

Welcome back! Hang in there. It will be worth it in the end. Look at it this way, you may be getting any little bumps in the road out of the way now and have smooth sailing after that!

I have heard about the drama at the other sight. I have stopped in there a time or two but found the site a little less than user friendly so I stay here now.

Keep us posting on your healing!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
