After have my surgery postponed for a week, finally made it to the post- op side!

Came home yesterday, and having a a rough day today, gas pain in my shoulders, difficult to get liquids down, been working on same 12 ounces for 3 hours now. Also pain in the large incision sight which I am hoping is normal?

How long does it take ot feel good again?

All things considered, went better than I expeced.

Hello and sorry you are not feeling well. I had my surgury on Aug.22 and I feel great. I didnt have alot of pain with mine except for gas pain. The best thing to do is WALK, Walk, WALK. Also take some gas-x. As far as drinking Water, just take your time and drink slow and it will get better. I did the same thing. I could not drink what they wanted me to drink until a few days had past and I still dont drink 64oz. a day like I am suppose to. All you can do is your best and that is all. I promise if you will walk you will feel better faster!

Sorry you're having a bad time. I didn't have any of your issues except pain in my incisions and yes that is totally normal! I was able to drink from the time I came to in the hospital. On the down side of that, though, I've been HUNGRY since I came to in the hospital! LOL

You are doing great. You'll feel better every day...but I agree...walk walk walk!

I didn't have the shoulder pain but I did have a lot of gas pain. Walking around really helps. I would make a couple of slow laps around the house on nice days.. LOL. In the beginning it seemed no matter what I drank and no matter how slow, it made me have more gas and feel like I had to burp. Walking really did help move the gas out. Take short walk every 1/2 hour or so if you can.

I was banded on 8/6 and had a lot of pain at the large incision site. The other ones were not nearly as painful. It is still a little sore (but only a little) and the Dr. said that is normal. Mine also isn't in the best place so I think that made it worse. It will definitely get better as it heals.

Good luck with everything and hang in there. Keep drinking liquid slowly throughout the day so you don't get dehydrated!

Hang in there! If you have some pain meds take them as directed and stay ahead of the pain at least for the first few days.

As for the gas, the gas X strips helped me a lot. I had a lot of gas pressure in my chest. I don't feel that the walking helped me too much, but I did keep walking.... but the gas X strips did.

Don't think anyone is asking you to get up and walk around the block a few times... at the hospital I walked down the hallway and back (more like 1/4 -1/2 the hallway!) twice and that was good for them and good for me. I kept my meds in the other end of the house, so I'd force myself to get up to take them.

As for the water.... I think I had the same glass of Water for 3 days!:crying:

I also had the gas pain in my shoulder. I just kept moving around and took gas x, and it seemed to help. It is hard to drink Water the first few days, but it will get better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
