Hello everyone! I'm just checking in - I managed through Ike, though not without some damage. We lost our fence and our power is still not on. I'm holed up at my mother's.

I don't know why I was worried about no exercise! After the storm hit, and we lost the fence, walking the dogs has become a must. So, I've taken several walks around the neighborhood...some briskly and some slower to chat with the neighbors.

Then, yesterday we cleaned the yard, pulled the tree limbs to the curb, bagged the mushy yard pilings...UGG. I ache all over! I'm looking forward to the treadmill!

Gloucester, good to hear you survived Ike. Hope your recovery goes smoothly.

As for me, as promised, I made it back in last night for 15 minute run on the treadmill followed by 25 minutes on elliptical. This morning consisted of 30 minutes of leg work followed by 25 minutes on elliptical. I'm going back in tonight for more cardio.

glouc - so glad you made it through IKE ... fence can be replaced!!! when do the expect power back on? i've heard it can be up till the end of the wk before most can expect that - i can just imagine the inconvience.

cowboy game - crazy ceradad & i should have stayed home from the gym, because my training session was pretty sorry. very lackluster, gave my trainer a hard time w/EVERY exercise....but i did go & got some calories burned...- more like sweating all the bad i did yesterday out is all!!!:)

There you go again, rubbing it in.:) Damn!!!! What a game!!!! I am even more jealous than I was yesterday. Crowd looked amazing the way you guys were cheering the whole game. Of course, with all the fireworks going with both offenses, you never got the chance to sit still.

And, serves you right for bragging to have a bad workout.:)

Now, bring on Green Bay!

there was NO sitting - only at halftime, maybe. as a season ticket holder, and spending every other wkend at TX stadium - including the last 7 thanksgivings.... it was just electric last night. and the game was off the hook!

we got there aroun 4'ish to tailgate & the parking lot was already packed - hubby wasn't the only guy around who took the day off:wink:

so quickly a few interesting NSV's about this football game.

*as hubby and i gained weight - sitting in the stadium was "VERY close". more like spilling into each others seat. last night - i was (during commercial break) able to sit indian style in my seat - not touch anyone!

*tailgating is ALWAYS so much food, nice to take A bite of everything w/out gorging - still ate high cal food, but ... eat better today??? LOL

*shiner (That's TX beer Ceradad) - only takes 3 and i'm a cheap date..:laugh::)

back to being good today - bring on GB is right!

Last year when I went down for the Vikings game there, I was a little disappointed in some of the crowd. They didn't seem to understand when to be loud and when to be quiet. Most of the people around me seemed ok, but still not overly loud. Last night, at least on TV, seemed like you guys were right on the whole game. Especially at the end for the Shegals last 2 drives. From the fans not in attendance, Thank You.

Gotcha on the Shiner. Next time I get down there, I'll have to give it a go.:)

As for the food, you gotta live a little also, just work it off. I really loved the tailgating down there, great people sharing everything. Had a Hispanic family parked directly across from us that had a HUGE setup complete with the Texas Longhorns tent/cover. They offered us everything they had foodwise and asked for nothing in return. Gotta love those Texans!:)

And great nsv! I love that feeling of sitting w/o going into DW's seat anymore. One for me, this past Saturday we had a SWAT team get together at one of the Lt's house. As it was rainy and chilly, DW decided she would grab my new black Champion sweatshirt with our emblem and SWAT embroidered on it. I had to fight her to get it back because she loved it because it is only an XL and she doesn't "swim" in it like before.

Last night, another 35 minutes on elliptical.

This morning, 30 minutes on elliptical followed by 45 minute spin class. My first spin class.:frown: Not too bad, but my tri's were feeling it at the end. I'll give it a go again. I'm a sucker that way.

Checking in, Everyone...

Let's see - I think I talked about my weekend already. So Monday, I had to skip the gym because DD had a phone interview with a Culinary school and they wanted us parental-types there as well. I was happy for her, but a little PO'ed because I HATE missing my workouts:cursing:

Yesterday was a combo day - I work my entire body 4 days / week, with various exercises. Mostly upper body one day, mostly lower body the next, but with some other exercises thrown in for variety. It was a lower body day, and I spent 1 hour in the gym - all weights. I do my walking in the morning with the dog, my lunch hour at work, and the afternoon walk to the train station.

If I get all my walks in, it's about 3.5 miles per day - and I definately plan to continue through the winter. I've got to get some good flat-soled boots with decent traction. Because I'll be wearing them to work, they need to look reasonably business-like, but comfort is the priority.

Nice to see so many others working out so regularly - I got a thumbs-up from the trainer at the gym yesterday. She noticed that I'm pretty regular with my attendance and complimented me on it.

Mornin' Luluc,

Thank you so much! :wink2:

You are one of the bandsters that truly inspire me as well - I've read a lot of your posts, and you are SERIOUS about your journey...I hope to continue my level of dedication. You and the rest of the veterans on the site have taught me so much...I KNOW I'm going to be successful!

Changing the subject just a bit - I saw you're in the midst of a farmhouse remodel...what year house? I live in an 1850's Greek Revival home and love it so much. The house was "condemned" when I found it - because it used to be rental property and the heating plant failed. It took me quite a while to find the owner, but my family and I eventually got the house for a SONG - then spent about 4 months doing essential renovations before school started. The work continues (redecorating, mostly) and my first efforts at decorating are now ready to be re-done

Have fun and keep inspiring us newbies!:crying:

Yesterday: 20 minutes - walked the dogs (exercise in itself just to put the leash on them)

And 20 minutes on treadmill, week #3.

I'm starting to jog not run, but I keep up the jogging longer than I can actually run. So, my time is still around 16:30 for one mile. (Hey, we gotta start somewhere, right?)

My DH's daughter has to run the mile in 12 minutes...I wouldn't be able to do it! But, that's my goal. When I heard about that, then that was the goal I wanted to get to. A 12 minute mile right now seems so far away.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
