Gone4Now 4 Posted September 4, 2008 I posted these in the Aug c25k thread, but didn't find any takers. I'm hoping some regular exercise experts can help. I get a tingly sensation in my right foot, in the toes. This happens after about 10 - 15 minutes of walking/running. Does anyone else feel this when they exercise? If so...what is it? Does anyone use a treadmill? If so...what can I do to fix mine - it "skips" every now and then. If I weren't holding on to the handles, I'd go flying off. It's almost like it slides forward, and then heads back. Am I too fat for it? (It had a 250 wgt limit, I'm at 230 now...It's electric, not manual. It was used and is about 5-7 years old.) Does it need greasing?
She Smiles 2 Posted September 4, 2008 I got the tingly toes thing a fair bit when i started running as my main exercise. The blood was restricted to my toes because of my gait/the way my feet hit the ground, apparently. Getting proper running socks and VERY GOOD running shoes fixed it for me 100%. Gone4Now 4 Posted September 4, 2008 Running socks??? Oi! I'm outta my league here. Actually, I have good shoes, but didn't know it. I had bought them on sale, during tax-free weekend because they're cute and it's a good deal. Well, when I was looking more closely at them, turns out they're specially designed for running, with cushy parts and everything. But, socks...okay. Is there a different way to gait? Or is it just what it is and you overcome? Is it a serious thing if not taken care of? Sorry, I know I'm being kinda wussy about this, but I just want to make sure I'm not going to hurt myself later on.
luluc 6 Posted September 4, 2008 it could be as easy as having your shoelaces too tight. i experienced that early on, that and getting a good pair of running shoes to fit seemed to fix it!!
Gone4Now 4 Posted September 4, 2008 I do tend to lace tightly. I'm running tonight, so I'll try loosening up a bit. Also, I think I need to land right. I read in the other thread that you're having toe nail issues...is that right? I tend to run like I'm on an elliptical glider, partly because I'm scared of my treadmill. :crying:

YES, i'm a prancer my trainer tells me. i land on my toes, and lately my toe nails have been splitting/cracking. only started when i picked running backup this summer - so dont think it's diet as my Dr suggested. i'm practicing to "land correctly" ... my trainer actually ran side by side w/me this AM to "bark" at me to get off my toes.....:crying:
Gone4Now 4 Posted September 4, 2008 I'm jealous! I want someone to bark at me. :crying:
Livingthe Dream 0 Posted September 4, 2008 Your treadmill belt is loose and it is slipping. It can be a scary feeling when it happens because it feels like running on ice. You either have a cheapo treadmill which servicing would not help most likely or one that needs a new belt. There is alot that goes into picking the right shoe. Running/Walking is never really going to feel GREAT but there shouldn't be any pain. I once ran 10 miles and got what runners call a "runners high" but that was a one time deal. lol Go into a sports shoe store and ask what shoe they recommend for heavy runners. Then try it on and see what you think. Then go order the shoe online to save money.
ajoneen 0 Posted September 8, 2008 I'm jealous! I want someone to bark at me. I had a problem with my foot also. I would kind of lose feeling in my middle and ring toes. Turns out I have Mortons Neuroma. Morton's Neuroma - FootPhysicians.com I got an orthotic with a neuroma pad. It seems to help. As for the treadmill. The belt is loose/worn. Either it needs to be tightened or replaced. You've got to be careful. You can twist a knee/ankle very easily or even fall off. If the treadmill is old getting a new one, if you can, would be the best. Good luck on your journey!!

I found that article interesting...especially the part about having flexible feet will likely be a cause. I used to pick up my dogs bones w/my toes and play catch. (Didn't have the musical talent to try the piano, though!)I'll look into getting those inserts. As for the treadmill...I'm sort of broke right now. I've added it to my Christmas list, though. Wish me luck that it lasts until then!
