RE: How many calories per day after Lap-Band?

Recommended Posts

Just one more comment. The way I really found out how many calories started off by seeking suggestions as well. However, I soon found that the true answer for me was trial and error.

I stayed at a level where I lost 1-2 pounds a week. As soon as I didn't lose for a week, I moved it up or down until I started losing again (don't forget that sometimes you have to go up to lose weight if you were staying too low to begin with).

Changing up calories and exercise is what actually got me to goal. Plateaus happen to all of us . . . this moved me beyone the plateaus.

I have read so much literature about this topic and there doesn't seem to be a right answer, I personally feel that 800 is really low, especially for a 6'1, 31 yo Male. So I have been sticking to about 1100-1200 a day, I feel pretty satisfied between meals and rarely feel like I need a snack. So I think the answer is if you don't feel satisfied or "well" then you should probably up your calories per day. I have been using myfitnesspal on my iphone religiously and I am really loving the app. Helps me stay on top of things and has basically every food you can imagine.

My nutritionist says 900-1000. And to aim for 300 calorie meals and a 100 calorie snack if needed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
