I was banded on July 31st this year. I went to my post op visit and everything went great. Well, now that it is over a month since being banded, i find that my internal swelling must have went down because i can really eat anything i want and as much of it as i want. I was due to go for my first fill on 9/11, but i had to r/s due to the fact that i will be traveling out of town for the weekend for a wedding. My new apt is for the 17th. Please tell me that this will get much better after my fill. So many people can't eat bread, Pasta, meat. Well i can eat all of the above. :) Good and Bad i guess.

Any input would be very appreciated.

This is perfectly normal and happens to almost everyone. You and I were one of the lucky ones to maintain some restriction early on for atleast a month. Alot of people are starving from surgery to their first fill. You will be fine after a couple fills. If the doctor is aggressive with his fills it might only take 1 or 2 fills.

I am 4 months post op now and have full restriction and down 46 pounds.

I was banded on July 30th and I am having the same issue. It's really scary to me because I'm afraid to gain weight. I'm still eating healthy foods and in smaller portions but it still feels like too much.

It is scary isn't it. I guess we just have to wait until the fills. I actually feel as if i didn't even have anyting done. Except for the port you can feel slightly when you run your hand over my stomach.

The same thing is happening to me. I feel as if I can eat most anything and a lot of it. However what is helping is to avoid carbs and concentrate on Protein. I feel fuller longer and can only eat so much. I have lost 9 lbs and was banded on 8/20. I have my first fill on 9/15 and can't wait for more restriction!

I Had my surgery on July 31 and just in the past 5 days have really had a problem being really hungry. It seems I can eat anthing I want and as much as I want. I am not sure this is a good thing because I have been really worried about stretching my pouch, but I am having a hard time controling my appetite. I need to get back on track before I ruin my band. HELP! Jenhay

It sounds as if you have not had a fill yet. After surgery the swelling goes down and you get a little bolder and find you can eat most anything. Once you get a fill that will change, you will get full faster and you probably will have to experience eating bread or something too dry and not chewed enough and you will know it was a mistake!

I remember feeling really hungry postop. A little restriction after my first fill. Had my second fill a few weeks ago and definitely have noticed a difference!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
