6 month - to lose or not to lose?

Recommended Posts

 Hey everyone! I started the six month diet recently and am kinda confused - should I lose weight? Or not?

I mean... I know the insurance requires it to get approved (and that is what I want - approval), but if I can lose weight with the physician supervised diet, isn't that kind of uhhhh counterintuitive?

I am waiting on my referral to a dietician, but need some advice in the meantime. I want to do whatever it takes to get approved through insurance!!!!

You will be okay as long as you stay in the BMI range that qualifies you for surgery. That, and maybe put a couple of rolls of quarters in your pocket! HA! Kidding, I swear!

Also, the whole idea is to get a weight loss method that you can keep for life, to keep the weight off, I'm sure that you've been on diets and lost weight before, then gained it back. So just because you can lose weight doesn't mean you can keep it off. Make sense?

For my insurance if you don't lose and show that you are exercising they will decline you. I have Diversified Group Administrators. I dunno about other insurances. You don't have to lose a ton though., unless your surgeon wants a specifc amount or insurance does.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
