Well, Frank Felts works in the Dallas area (I think actually in Richardson).

He works one day a month at True Results in Houston, but his main office is in the Dallas area. He is a general surgeon (18 years) who now ONLY does Lap Band,

He did mine a little over a month ago, and did a great job!

BTW... I'm also self pay, and his people can set you up with credit options... at a good price (I think mine was 15,000 ish)

Dr. Benavides is a wonderful doctor also. Him and Dr. Felts are actually in the same office. Like steve said below, they both have alot of experience. Some of the other doctors in Dallas that I've heard of are Dr. Wade Barker and Dr. Marsden (sp?)

But again I will give props to my Doc...Dr. Benavides:thumbup:

I was also banded by Dr. Felts in Richardson/Dallas...he is great, called me over the weekend after my surgery, and the staff/nurses are very nice. Price $15K including $1000 of aftercare/fills.

I am not familiar with the process for self pay. If your insurance does not cover have you ever thought about finding an individual plan that does cover the surgery and paying the premiums.

my insurance is through my employer. But my mom has an independent policy through blue cross. All we did to we that up was call them fill out the form and pay the premiums. You could start by calling some different companies. I would also try posting this question on the general forum as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
