Anybody told they overeat??

Recommended Posts

Just got back from my 2nd fill and here's how it went. I was told orginally they put 4.6 on my first fill 7 weeks ago. Realize 10 band. Today as she is pulling out the Fluid only 3. something comes out. The nurse figures she wrote down the wrong amount. So she adds enough to put me up to 6cc. Has me drink Water and I don't feel a thing, water goes right down. The first fill I did feel tight and the water backed up, not so this time. So she looks at me and says I have stretched my pouch. Asks if I have been eating only 1 cup per meal. I had to say not all the time and I find it hard to judge salad and a half of sandwich. So I ask should I go on liquids for a while. No she says small 1 cup meals only. I do last 4 plus hours after eating and don't snack. I did lose (thank God) 4 pounds since last fill. Any suggestions, maybe I need a swift kick in the butt....:)

I have a 10cc band and I have had 5 fills however I am only at 6.?? something. I eat a cup of Cereal for Breakfast, about a cup (sometimes a cup 1/2) for lunch, but at supper I can eat more and I really have to stop my self. No one has ever told me I am eating too much . . but I worry that I am.

Ok I DID just get my band but aren't we supposed to get FULL on less? Aren't we supposed to PB if we overeat? and if there isn't adequate restriction to cause that full feeling, won't the food just go on through and NOT stretch the band? I'm confused....

Okay just tried to eat some chicken. BAD MOVE. The first time have thrown back up. So now I will be liquid only for at least 24 hours. I can't believe the nurse told me I could eat. I knew better. But of course I didn't just my own judgement. Live and learn.

Sue, this nurse sounds like a complete idiot. Sorry you had that experience. I know I've had days when I've overeaten, but I've never been accused of "stretching my pouch"!! Avoid her in the future. Find out when she's working and see if you can avoid her at your next fill. Heck, tell the receptionist about your experience and demand not to have her again. This is a business. You ARE a consumer. If you were at Walmart and not happy with your service, you'd speak up to the manager. Be your own best advocate and stand up for yourself. You (or your insurance company) have paid these people good money. Get your money's worth. Avoid her in the future! Good luck. I'm told 48 hours of liquids after a fill. :)

Sue Take a "take charge" approach, Does your Dr do Floruscope xray with his fills? If you believe something is wrong, then document each visit, ask for the xray when you get a fill, so you can see how restricted you are and that everything is in place and in its proper condition. Your nurse may have been new. She may just not be as good as we would like her to be, or as experienced. There may have been a lack of adequate communication. Keep a small notebook each time you go, you track what they are telling you they are puttin in or taking out, any advice, your weight. etc, when you have questions ask to see the Dr, don't settle for the nurse only.

We too often forget we paid for the services of the Dr when we come for fills and if you have a good Dr he/she will want to stop in and see you, have your questions ready when you go, and jot down any that come up when you are with the nurse. Stay until you get them answered. Never take an appt that you will have to rush thru or off to something else.

This was important to you. Maybe your band is stretched, or maybe its not placed properly,, or maybe your weight loss is just enough to keep losening around the band,, or maybe the nurse is just wrong. The Dr and a xray with your fill would settle the questions you have. Go back and get it cleared up. Good luck Sugarbear

Just did the liquids. and will stay on them through tommorrow. I just feel so dumb with trying real food yesterday. The nurse does all the fills at this doctors office. Actually I will see the nurse next wedesday as she does a patient support group. Usually not many attend so she will take personal questions. I will have some ready for her. I am feeling restriction so I know that is a good thing. Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to take and use that advice to make ME better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
