Hi all

Hi,

My doctor gave me one. To be honest, I never used it. I usually just order a meal (without bread/rice) and eat what I can and bring it home. Usually my intent is to eat it the next day, but my hubby usually gets to it before then.

For me, i like to feel "normal" lol. Whatever that means...i guess i feel good when i can order a normal meal and i stop when i'm full.

I don't use the card either but that's personal preference. I paid for the surgery to alter my stomach that doesn't mean they have to change their rules to suit me.. Plus I didn't like being the fat girl because everyone stares... I wouldn't pull out the card to draw attention to myself like that either.

My husband and I usually share a meal...well we were out the other night and they wanted to charge us $5.00 for another plate. I just said, "no thanks, I will eat off of his plate".

Resturants are getting crazy!

I normally order an appetizer or order from the children's menu. Sometimes I'll order a regular entree and take home leftovers but I'm not always able to do that. There are times I'm going shopping or to a movie or something after eating and won't have any way to refrigerate leftovers.

I've only been told once that it was against the restaurant policy to let adults order from the kid's menu and that was at Denny's. The waitress was very friendly though and allowed me to order off of the Senior's menu even though that wasn't allowed either. She gave me a story to tell them at the register about how my mother ordered it but had to leave before eating it.

Some restaurants have told me they have to charge me $1 or $2 more if I order from the children's menu, which is a bit silly considering I'm not getting any more food and not even getting the drink that comes with most children's meals, but I accept that it's their policy and pay it.

Yes, like many others, when I order what I want, I immediately tell them I want to "To Go" box.

Then when I get home, I bought a ton of the "Little Wonders" bowls from tupperware (holds 6 ounces each) and separate the leftovers into them, put them in the freezer, and voila' ---LUNCH AND SUPPER FOR DAYS!

My surgeon had advised ordering an appetizer or a side dish but I find them too greasy or boring...:tt2:

I don't use my lapband card, either. I HATE drawing attention to myself, I don't want any unnecessary questions. I've also never found too many healthy things to eat off of the appetizer list or the kids menus for that matter. I guess the places I go just serve nuggets and weird frozen pizzas (hello, Dennys).

I just order Soup and salad or eat some of DH's food or order my own meal and take it home. If I know I'm not going straight home, I try to eat some of DH's food and get myself salad or something small.

I would LOVE to order off the senior menu because the offerings seem healthier and more varied, with slightly better portion sizes. But I wouldn't tell any random stranger I had a lapband just for the privilege. But that's just me.

My doc put it this way: Technically, we now have a disability (small pouch) and it is illegal for them to deny us the right to order off of the children's menu. I don't know how accurate that is, but I think it would make a manager think before saying no.

Also, what happened to always trying to please the customer and "the customer is always right"? Personally, I think it is a bunch of crap that they wouldn't let you order off of the kid's menu. I would definitely write a complaint letter.

I have only used the card 2 t imes. I didn't have a problem either time. One time I used it at IHOP and the other time I used it at a local family owned restaurant. I thought that I was going to have problems with the family owned restaurant, but they had no problem with it.

Excuse my bluntness, but that's a heap of crap. You're not paralyzed, blind, etc and your "disability" is the result of an elective surgery. I don't see anything wrong with a restaurant not allowing "us" to order from the kids menu. 9 times out of 10 there's an age restriction or disclaimer on the menu. Instead of being petty and stubborn - we need to realize everyone isn't going to bow down and be sympathetic to our needs.

The adult thing to do - would be to order from the regular menu and in knowing your limitations, you would automatically ask for a to-go box. Your sense of entitlement b/c you elected to reduce your stomach to 4oz is a little bewildering to say the least.

I am in complete agreement here.

I spent several years directing programs for children and adults with mental retardation and autism. I have seen plenty of real disabilities. Because of this, when I weighed 450 pounds, I never claimed that I was disabled, and I certainly would not look at having a pouch as being a disability.

If I worked in a business that had clearly set guidelines, and someone felt there was an exception, I might try to make that exception. But if they came to me because they willingly made a choice to have a surgical proceedure in every way made them healthier, and then wanted to claim disability in order to get a cheaper meal, I would tell them to quit whining and get a life (preferably somewhere else).

I keep my card in case I get in an accident and have to be intubated. I will not ever pull it out as an excuse.

typically, the kids menu has junk I wouldn't eat anyway. Grilled cheese? chicken nuggets? Yuck. Half the time I order an appetizer instead, or just order the entire meal and take it home. I have two grown boys who LOVE my left overs. As far as they're concerned, this whole LapBand thing is a sweet deal!! LOL

I went to lunch with my mom and sister yesterday. We went to Olive Garden. Our waitress was great, but the manager was a huge ass!!

I had asked the waitress if I could see the children's menu. I also handed her my special diet card. She told me that she was not allowed to let me order from the children's menu, but that she would show my card to the managers and ask for me.

Well, they said NO. Seriously. . . I couldn't even look at it!! LAME.

I ended up eating some of my mom's chicken breast, and a few shrimp from my sister's plate.

It was all fine in the end , but I was just pissed on the princeable. Because they refused to let me order from the kid's menu--I ordered nothing. Losers

Oh, that sucks! I was lucky b/c when I was in Vegas we went to a buffet. I was so lucky to get the child's price of $9.99 b/c the adult price was $21.99! Sorry they didn't accommodate you.

I am not banded yet, but I wouldn't want every waiter or waitress to know I am banded just to get a cheaper price. I guess to each his own, but I think that is a rather personal piece of information.

It's funny to me they would rather have you order nothing than to order off the kids menu.

I generally order a normal portion and make it something my husband likes so he can have it for dinner the next day. :lovechoc:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
